My plan for the car was to have a few subtle mods to enhance the appearance but not make the car overly aggressive. The mood I want it to project is that of a modern homage to the e30 325is and / or the e46 330ci coupe (the one which we only got as a convertible in SA) as the car sits just below the equivalent M car. So from a visual mods perspective the plan is to be subtle and do the following:
- chrome delete and black out details
- m style mirrors
- m performance rear spoiler
- window tint
- tail light tint
- full detail

Had the car for about a week now and it's been a pleasure to drive thus far. I also fitted some of the above mods to the car and scrapped the idea for a window tint altogether (car already had 35% smash and grab which looks dark enough for me for the time being to be honest). I had the M style mirrors, spoiler and double slat grilles fitted. I went with the M-performance style spoiler because it better matched the clean lines of the car. I had considered the M4 style spoiler but it only really looks good on the M4 as the car has the ridge running across the top and back of the body which lines up well with the notches in the spoiler. I had the rear badge, stock rear diffuser and whiskers blacked out. I'ts currently satin but may change it to gloss.

I realized after the first batch of updates the car was already looking somewhat aggressive but figured I could live with that.

I tried fitting on after market tail pieces I got as a place holder for an MPE but these were a struggle to fit, I'l take it up with the supplier.

Still need to do a chrome window trim delete. If anybody that has a contact that can help in Sandton / JHB area, please share =)

I'm planning on getting lowering springs on the car in the near term (I may also add some spacers) and will probably do the MPE some time in future.

Outside of that the car will look more or less what I want it to look like. Except for the "invisible" money I'm going to shelve out for a full detail and full frontal paint protection :blueCry: Any comments on whether PPF is worthwhile are welcome

Other ideas which come up and I park off include potentially getting a carbon fiber rear diffuser, front splitter and maybe carbon fiber interior bits.

Performance wise, I'm pretty happy with the car and don't anticipate any changes in the near term. This also bodes well for insurance and MP. The car is quick and has very good delivery across the rev range. RWD is also much more fun than FWD. :smilebounce:

The TWO looks great man, well done.

Have you any info on the tint used on the rear lights? Looks soooo much better than the rubbish some shop half ass'ed on my car.

Not exactly sure what shade the tint is. Will ask the supplier and get back to you. My brief to him was to try match the shadow edition colour and to go lighter if in doubt. =)

Small update. Finally got the chrome delete done on the window trim. Very happy with the outcome and makes the car look like one consistent theme throughout. Visually I'm pretty pleased with where it is (barring height and exhaust tips) but the exhaust tone is very muted.

My "scientifically" proven testing method of rolling down the window whilst driving through the parking at work confirmed my hypothesis that the sound is much more muted than what I had on my GTI exhaust (which had Downpipe, intake and software). Not really going to toy with the idea of mods outside of plan for the time being but will have to teach myself to be extra patient as I wait for a second hand MPE to come available within my price range.

Adding a few more pics with the chrome delete done. Cannot wait for the weekend so that I can get the car onto the road and out of parking lots and daily commute duty. :smilebounce:

Thanks bud, appreciate it.

Supplier says it’s the lightest shade of smoked Laminx available. Not sure how useful or accurate that is tbh.

Lights look tops. Where did you get it done?

Thank you! Got the lights done at a place called MCB Customs. Light's came out alright but I would recommend looking at a couple of other shops were you'll be happy with workmanship / service levels.

Car looks sweet!

What did you use to do the chrome delete?

Thanks! =) Used a wrap for the chrome delete on the window trim.

Did you get your boot spoiler from bmw?

No, It’s an aftermarket spoiler from CarbonBros. It is the m-performance style to resemble oem. :)

Small update.

Had the car detailed this past week to make the paint pop. Continuous rains have limited the amount of clean pics I have of the car but very happy with the outcome as there are no visible swirls on the paintwork anymore.

This is my first time uploading pics via Tapatalk so holding thumbs that they work.

A couple of before pics:

I’ll most likely get the car washed on Sunday as it seems like the forecast is clear for the next week or so. Other than that car drives well and has lots of power available when called upon.

Took the car for a dyno this morning which was quite the experience. On arrival I parked the car took a sneaky pic and when I came back to take the car inside I was sandwiched by a couple of Subaru’s - how’s that for a Scooby snack ;). FYI car is stock standard and running on pump fuel.

Eventually it was time to take the car in. Once inside the rwd, wet tires and slippery floor were not so good for traction. The car struggled to get onto the scales as it was just wheel spin everywhere. Eventually we had to put it in neutral and push it on.

Myself half a tank of fuel and an M240i weighed in at 1,656kg.

After the weigh in it was time to strap the car in and run the numbers.

ddea49992e1dafadda0d9fc73dac4d80.jpg

The first run went alright - didn’t get a report on the figures the car generated but based on the vid I have torque seems to have peaked at 548.7nm and power at 252.9kw

The second run, car kept slipping and wheel spinning so numbers weren’t all that useful

Eventually the car went for a third run which showed torque peaking at 532nm and power at 274kw. I was expecting the car to perform better than quoted as its common knowledge that BMW May have underquoted the power made by the B58 motors. I’ll probably get the car dyno’ed at a different dyno at some point to triangulate today’s numbers.
