Loss of power and water

so you have no steam out the exhaust?

failed pump would explain the noise and the water loss but not power loss...

My thoughts exactly.

So opened the water bottel now, half the bottel water gone.

Also checked the oil on the cap. Looks perfect. No mushyness or mayo type oil.

There is an oil stain on the front top part of the motor and looks like a leak somewhere lower down.

Can say now that the rattling is either from behind the intake manifold or somewhere round the altinator.

Also found one loose plug cable. Just kind of pulled off no effort. So that might explain the power loss but why only from 3rd gear, and why wouldn't it missfire wheb just idling?

Also just a mention. Yesterday when I opened the water bottle it made a sucking sound. Meaning its been searching for water right?

Hey Thunder,

Sorry bud....I am no expert - However, I would recommend you do a compression test...this will indicate a blown gasket, a leak or even a cracked head. if its a cracked head, it could be seeping into the chamber and mixing water with fuel - like you say, but why only from third - perhaps its getting enough load to open the crack, feeding water into the cylinders...a compression tester goes for about R200 at a midas/autozone....its the easiest way to indicate the head issue.

Take a look at your belts...is your fan belt still intact? i had this issue on my mazda rustler bakkie - turned a bend, heard a strange noise and thought nothing of it - a kilo down the road, the temp guage was in the red...so if the fan belt isnt operating, it could have resulted in ur waterpump packing up, causing the motor to overheat and blow something.

The water pump being worn is also a possibility. helped a mate out on his girlfriends Izusu KB, it was also mysteriously losing water - after giving the motor a good clean, it was evident that there was a 2mm crack on the head, but you couldnt see the leak, cause it would run down from the crack, along the block - and turn into condensate. The water pump could be losing water the exact same way...you also wont spot it to easy - but a fine eye will pick up that type of issue...

I hope my experience and brain farting can at least help find the problem a bit easier....Keep us posted.

So gave gizmo a call.

Told me to remove the cylinder head. Losened the 10 bolts but n o luck in removing it. Stuck like hell. I did find an oil leak on 3 of the nuts close to the plug cable I found loosish this morning. Water level still hasnt changed since this mornings inspection.
Anybody in the east rand that might be able to lend a hand or eye to inspect? Dont want to tow the car anywhere if it might be something I can fix at home.

Found the 2nd butterfly in the intake manifold was broken. Was what was causing the rattling sound.

So its been established that piston nr 3s compresion fails at 2000 rpm. Possibly debree from thw butterfly that ended in there and damaged it. Will only be able to establish if we strip.

But will possibly just to a swap.

probably broke a piston ring, and scored the barrel.

swap with what ?

honing out the barrels and replacing the rings will be a lot cheaper than a new/used/recon engine....( I think)

Replacing with an import motor.

And we cant say with 100% what got hurt and what might the damage be before the motor is open.

So if insurance decides to pay for repairs I`ll be replacing and selling the old motor for spares or maybe rebuild and sell. Not sure yet.

We planning on either just a replace with the same motor.
Or maybe going 318is.

Remember the car is actually a 316i M43 motor.

But all depend on what the insurance decides.
Otherwise the witch has to be sold:cry::cry::cry:
