Sorry to intercept this thread, but I had a '91 525i with the multivalve. The battery was under the hood, which means it was the M20 12valve and not the m50???

Ok I checked on Realoem and see the M50 came out mid 1990 which means I did have the M50, but the battery was under the hood?

I've never seen an SA-spec 1990 M50. M50 arrived at the same time as the 520i.

On Board Computer. It is in the center of the dash on the left hand side of the radio, Displays your clock and data of trips, etc.

There is a way to immobilize the car using the Code sequence on the OBC, but nothing's infallible. It's a stumbling block for the potential thief, but not a major one.

Sorry, yes, they call it the extended immobilizer. When it's activated, the car just cranks and don't start.

To reset it without the code, the battery needs to be disconnected for 10 minutes and then wait another 5 minutes after the battery is connected again, before the car would start. So for a thief it's impossible to wait that long if they are in a hurry. I have tested it that way and it works. Just don't ever forget the code otherwise you will have to wait for 15 minutes yourself.

To activate, press the code button, punch in a 4 digit code you will remember and press the sr button. To deactivate, punch in the 4 digit code and press the sr button. The ignition must be in postion 1 everytime.

This does not insure the car is there when you get back from the movies maybe, that's why I added more devices to mine and sometimes takes me more than 6 minutes before starting the car, but I now know my car will be there when I return, maybe just with broken lock or 2.

I will pay up to R25 000 for a E34 in a good condition. Just check it out properly and make sure there is no major problems. I checked mine for dripping oil, smoke from the exhaust and funny noises when it was idling. I never test drove it and not even saw the dent on the back door below the black strip. I just checked it for mechanically problems.

I would not really go for 1 with more than 220 000 on the clock, then you might get a lot of mileage out of it without problems.

Put the key in the ignition, turn it one click, that is position one if I am not mistaken.

Mine's done 350 000 & no major issue's had to do water pump, battery & altenator last year mind, but feels more solid than just about any new vehicle this side of R200k

Mine is the far top right button which you use to save your clock as well. The set\reset (s\r) button, that saves the settings.

my 525i has 351000km on the clock and only changed slave cylinder and recon starter probably the only car i ever owned with the least problems!
