Insurance companies are hungry for business and very quick to negotiate - I was with Santam and was quite happy with them but then changed to Momentum some years back, very happy with them! I would think that since you do already have comprehensive insurance on the CrawlX and if your track record is good so far then you should be able to get a reasonable monthly premium.
As for the final choice of car, I would say if you can, go for an E46 Six - 325i, 328i or even maybe a 330i. E36 is still nice but they are really getting old now and especially if you are selling the CrawlX you don't want to find yourself in a situation of having a not so reliable and costly to repair car. Spend a bit more on a younger well looked after BMW Six cylinder, treat it well and it will last many happy years!
