Any of you got a contact for someone who does legal personal perspex plates ? I cannot stand the look of the standard plates. I am in the Midrand area

I am interested to find out if there are still any legal routes for GP perspex plates.

Me too, keen to know if cops find this an issue. I had Velcro strips on the M135i plates but they never really seem to be concerned about that.

The new Ally plates work with their fancy speed cameras and helps with plate recognition - As far as I know, thats the case, even double sided tape or velcro is illegal.

New ally plates have to be riveted to the car - I guess this assists in identifying cars that have inter-changable plates where they use them in robberies etc... not only the speedsters.

Cosiman should be able to post a legal perspective on this.

It's not legal.

However, I've been through several roadblocks without issues so far with mine.

But you never know - one day they might just start clamping down on them.

Perspex plates are not Legal as they are not SANS Approved
Even though we get them with sans emblem they are not as per legislation and law

However - the Cops dnt always check this
They should be more concerned that the plates are not Revited onto car as that is also law.

FYI
We are coming out now with a NATIONAL Plate that will be implemented in the country.
Not happy about this - but call from the big boys/Minsters

Is it pop riveted ?
:skit: Nope Tape only - once the cops pointed out my front one on my Z4 is cracked - Quite bad in the middle almost like a big stone hit it about the size of a tennis ball - he said I might want to get a new plate, but he was not bothered because it was perspex at all. :=):

This is because the spietkops don't know the laws they're supposed to be enforcing.

In reality, how do you enforce a law like this for parts of the population, when you have taxi's passing you with body parts almost falling out.

Any idea what the national plate will mean for those who have regional personalised plates like me? Or the 3+3 plates in GP?

I haven't had issues having my front plate on with velcro in Gauteng. In KZN they are a lot harsher and even prod or pull the plate to see (I've had this done many times down there)... but never received a fine, just a lot of lip and warning to secure it properly (I guess as long as you have a plate at the time they don't care enough to fine you?)

I've had perspex up in GP for ages now (granted ZN plates) with no issues...

I massive intern conflict on this matter. I know right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter the degree.

But seriously if the plate is present and the reg is correct it really is not a such a big "issue", a very illegal plate will not result in loss of life. Where as having only your left front headlight barely working could result in death of an entire family, e.g.rear end collusion.

Or having red headlights which look like brake/rear lights. :RedNo::hammerhead:

I'm still fighting this one as it will have massive impact as they wont be valid.
How will the gov re-emburse those that have

I.e. Like me
:roflol:

But no real logic...
I have meeting on Friday to discuss further
Then will update the forum
