LED Lights

Good day

Does anyone know if the interior lights on the F30 can be changed to LED lights and if so, is there special LED lights one will need to get?

I had a VW previously and changed all my interior lights to LED, and they looked much better and brighter. I bought them from the China Mall. Was just wondering if it the BMW has specific requirements for theirs. Also will this affect the motorplan if I change them?

The other thing I would like to change is the headlight and spot light globes. Is it possible to fit one of those HID kits with a ballast? I currently have the standard yellow look globes.

Any advice on making the lights better would be much appreciated.

Thanks
M

I had my OEM "yellow " bulbs changed to aftermarket LEDs.
It took about 6 months before the first one stopped working and over the next year, they went through various stages of working, flickering, dead and eventually when i removed them to replace with the expensive OEM LED replacements (because i couldn't take the disco effect in my car anymore), some of the LEDs had separated from the aluminium and non-existent thermal paste.

Given i had a bad experience i can not recommend the cheap aftermarket LEDs as replacements, although theres probably going to be a ton of posts after this saying they have the cheap china mall LEDs in the car and they didnt have any issues.

All I'm saying is, sometimes it works, and sometimes(in my case its a ballsup of note) it doesn't.

Thanks everyone. Nastaliq, from your reply, I assume there is an LED light package that one can purchase from BMW for the interior lights? Do you know if these are just the globes, or is there some fitment changes or coding that needs to be done?

From the rest of the replies, it seem Violet Electronics might have some good LEDs which can be used to replace all the interior globes.

I will check with BMW first. Don't want to end up with a motor plan issue if I change them myself.

There should be no MP issues unless your service manager/ advisor is a complete naai, which sometimes is the case.

I had china bulbs in my car for countless services and never had them even ask me about it.

eventually, it was me that just got sick of it and bough the BMW kit.

They are a set of 10 bulbs, plug and play, no coding or anything else required.

Although the install is a bit of a pain due to how all the clips etc on the light compartments are designed.

That gives me a greater sense of peace of mind. My car is going in for a checkup on Friday, as the car is sounding a bit rough on startup since I got her 2 months ago. I'll find out from BMW what's the cost of the light kit, and then decide if I go with the BMW kit or first try Violet Electronics.

The BMW kit will be much more expensive than violet electronics.
As far as i Can tell, the BMW kit uses BMW branded Osram bulbs which are not sold locally, according to Osrams distributor here.

Thanks for the heads up. Although I assume they are worth the extra cash. I know Osram globes are some of the best.
