Hi There Guys

For those of you who have changed the OEM Corona Bulbs on your vehicles, have you had any issues with Motorplan?

One of our clients has confirmed with us this morning, despite much discussion with BMW that changing the Corona Bulbs will void Motorplan on his vehicle.

Looking for some thoughts and opinion on this please.

I have heard that they do, so before any service. I always replace mine with the oem ones.

Yes I have been told that they can void motorplan because of the bulb ...

Basically you are not allowed to change anything on the car without it risking Motorplan being cancelled or voided , its really up to the dealership some of them overlook it , some look for any excuse to take away your Motorplan

Why is this not made known when advertising these products? We ordered a set for a clients car and they are stunning, the quality, the packaging etc is amazing but I cannot knowingly install this on an E90 now knowing the risk, for a bulb. :nonono:

I appreciate that Motorplan is strict, but this is just a little excessive right?

Get it in writing from them, and see how quickly they change their tune.
Same malarky with runflat tyres

Mike was the Motorplan suspended or cancelled completely?
If it was suspended I am not 100% sure but I think you can pay to do a 21point check and if it passes those tests they will re-instate mp but it will have a comment .... But better a comment then no mp at all... It would be worth your client looking into this

I believe that any item that falls under motorplan cannot be changed by the owner.

Ther reasoning is that "approved" parts have been tested and meet certain qualty standards. After market parts are not approved unless they go through testing eg akra pipes.

Basically protecting themselves if you fit cheaper parts that they cause a malfuntion on associated parts, if they dont cancel MP, they would be liable.

Cheap aftermarket Corono bulbs with the could burn out wiring, Xenon controllers etc.

Better safe than sorry, i rate.

Just to clarify, no Motorplans were suspended etc.

We have a client who wanted them installed, he did some research and spoke to BMW even though we had ordered the bulbs already (Thinking since everyone else is doing it that there shouldnt be an issue) and since BMW has made it clear that even if they fit it they will suspend the plan irrespective.

So we have a set of awesome Bulbs and we cant install them on a clients car because as a service provider with our clients best interests at heart it is not up to us to decide if the risk is worth it just for brighter Corona's.

Anyone got an E90 out of plan with Corona's? They are sitting here waiting for you!

I think the point here is that these things need to be made known to Fanatics when advertising these products, I never thought it would be an issue, its just a bulb, but the fact is that even such a simple and harmless mod will void Motorplan so be wary of this!

It depends from dealer to dealer.

I used to send my car in with my 19s with non RFT tyres and i even changes the Number plate light to LED, park lights and i put in yellow bulbs for my brights.

They dint tell me anything. Only issue is if they find a fault and BMW SA wants to view the car before they replace.

They did this when they changed my clutch...

Just be friendly with the dealer....

ANYthing not approved by BMW puts your MP at risk - no debate for me.

MP say: Enjoy your stock car...how boring. Its like sex abstinance before marriage :nonono:...well this was also not for me. My cars will be modded. Imagine we have MPs for houses...haha..

BMW will not provide a list of things that cannot be done under MP...they wont commit in writing either. Herein lies the risk. So best to keep your car stock.

Look, im all for modding an enjoying your car.

However, you have to see it from BMW's view also. Why should BMW hold the risk of your choices ? A MP is offered on a car that meets certain criteria. If you change that criteria why should BMW c"Pay for you to Play" ?

IF you owned a business and offered a product of a specific spec and offered a warranty with sale, would to still offer that warranty if I buy it and change the spec ? No business would if it increases thr risk of cost.

I had my ST warranty cancelled at its first service due to mods. Did I fight ford and cry about it ? NO ! I accepted it as I understand why. I accepted the risk and modded some more.

MP policy is what it is. You want to break the terms of that policy, accept the risk.

Gents, I dont think anyone is disputing the rules and regulations of motorplan here.

I am simply making it clear that sellers of these products, like tuners need tl make their customers aware of the implications, even if it is just two bulbs.

I dont recall any mention being made in any discussions about motorplan being cancelled for this mod, so for those who are not aware Here is your warning.

There are both great quality parts out there and others like some LED stuf I have bought that prompltly melted bulb holders and housings.

I can understand both sides in this, but what confuses me is why void the entire motorplan and not just annotate it saying fine, now if your lights fail it's not covered?

There is no way ever that a light bulb would make the brakes fail for example.....

I agree, however the admin to modify the MP agreement for every lightbulb change or invidual modification may just be too much.
