hi all...does anyone have an idea of what the cause could be of the sluggiesh pull away. i have to hit the accelerator pedal till it reaches 2000 rpm then it takes and in the first 3 gears, i have to keep it on 3 to 4 rpm to get the car going....

Do a error code reading on the car, that will maybe pin point the problem.

I had a similar issue on my 535i Auto, only started pulling properly over 2000rpms and were lazy, but they never got an error that the fuel pump were cracked on top, replaced the pump, problem solved.

The problem is that its a 318i Auto.. They are dead until 3000RPM

have to agree with you there. the first 3000rpm isnt the best, but its not donkey slow either.

this guy could have some other faults. he has the f/l engine, which pulls quite nicely. also, he seems to have to really plant the car to get it going. id say check the spark plugs before the fuel pump. you may be experiencing weak spark.

i had a fault on my corsa where when the car is idling is fine, but under a load it broke up. was some funky sparkies.

im sure that a decent repair centre would be able to test the fuel pressure. a damaged fuel pump would show up here, but not necessarily on a diagnostic machine.

Well I would think the first thing to do would be to replace the tappet cover gasket, the gasket might not be the primary cause of problems, but could cause secondary problems due to oil leaking into various thing such as sparkplugs and so on.

Thanks guys - tappet cover being replaced tomorrow morning. As for the spark plugs, it has been replaced a month ago. Could be oil leaking on it. When i open i removed the ignition coils, it was greasy, perhaps some oil leaking into the chamber...

Howsit

The facelift 318i came with 4 bullsh*t BREMI manufactured coils. Get the replacement BOSCH units and enjoy the smiles:). If its under motorplan force the stealsership to replace. I got mine for free under motorplan from SMG, same car. Just make sure they dont scam you. Make sure the coil units say BOSCH! To replace is very easy, Just remove the cover above where the spark plugs sit, lift up the locking mechanism, pull out old coil, replace with new one. You will be surprised at the difference. Try googling "impee e46 318i diy spark plug/coil change"

Saved my ass some cash.
