Leaded Fuel in an unleaded vehicle....

You'll destroy the cats and Lambda probes within 24 running hours. Then you will start experiencing problems due to dead Lambdas like high fuel consumption etc.

Even the slightest amount of leaded fumes across the vehicles cats and get read for a very nice bill to replace them, if your cats are not working properly the unleaded fumes released are carcinogenic of nature !

Sooo what your saying is...

Kill the cats properly, make them die a painful death, and then take them out :thinker:

Avgas is leaded. Lead is a lubricant and protects your engines moving parts. However children who have been tested with high lead levels in their blood ( proximity to noxious factories) have been shown to have average 20% lower literacy levels!! The use of lead pipes in Rome is thought to have Bern linked to the fall of the roman empire due to cancers and brain damage to the general population. Bottom line is lead helps your engine but is VERY bad for people. If u want to run it, de-cat your car and open a savings account for replacing your oxygen sensors regularly

Is it the leaded fuel that damages the O2 sensors, or the de-catting ?

Leaded fuel. According to the Bosch LSU-4 datasheet, it has a lifetime of 160000km on unleaded and 24hrs on leaded... This is the wideband sensor (the expensive one) that is before the cats.

Thats good news as I plan to do the pulley kit and decat the mini.

There is a oxygen sensor before and after the cat. The one after does not input the ECU, I think.

A bit worried that the decatting will make it too loud though.

Lead's primary function as an additive in the form of Tetra-ethyl lead was for octane boosting. That is to prevent pre-ignition or as the old folks said, anti knock. Not for lubrication at all.

I stand corrected:thumbsup:

with the Dastek uniQ chip added you can remove your Lambdas ( 02 sesnors) and have no problems!
The chip clamps the values and gives you a close loop cycle on cruise to keep it on 14.6 AFR!

Sorry Matt, no pun intended, but it's a common misconception. :thumb:

Lead is dangerous to cats .....especially at high velocity:nono:
Years ago guys who made hats had a band of lead to measure head circumferences , " Mad as a hatter " seems to come from this .
Lead is absorbed into blood and kidneys then battle to get it out , it may be 5 parts per million normally and up to 100 in automotive battery manufacturing plants . Lead plates are cast from ingots smelted at 400 degrees ( airborne fumes ) and lead paste on the plates (skin contact ) are bad news .
