Launch 320d on takeoff

Hi guys,

I'm new to the BMW family. Have my 2011 320d for a month now. Hardest thing for me was getting used to the clutch, especially on steep inclines and on takeoff. Any tips? Does anyone know how to launch the car on takeoff? Coming from an Audi petrol car, there's no clutch control needed on the beemer. Launching the Audi was easy, but struggling with the beemer.

@ moranor and andrew: You do rev it high for the perfect launch. And the wheels do spin alot, but you gain speed very fast

But as per my experimentaion, launch from 3500RPM+ is the best for me, because of the resistance from the tyres, the revs stay constant and all happens just in time for boost to come into play.. and then sadly its time to change gears :biglol:

@RyanC: No clutch control needed for BMW, just drop it...

If you do a civilized launch, the results are still fine, but about 0.5s slower 0-100km/h....

EDIT: Ryan, I assume you are talking about normal driving? in that case, I am joking about the launch. I find the car harder to get moving too, because the gears are much longer than what we are used to. It is also worse when the engine is cold. Only tip is practice makes perfect...

Hahahha Dont think so much refs for a diesel for launch..

Lol what i do with the 330d is launch from 3500 rpm and then change gears at 4000rpm... I tried everything and that worked the best.

Slight heathering of the diesel pedal and out with the clutch... works every time.

Then for fun press DTC once, then keep DTC in for 5 Secs.... Rev to about 2500rpm, let the clutch out fast, snap change to second and listen to them tires squeeeeeeeel....

coming from an Audi A3 petrol car myself, i found that the BMW is different.

Forstly, a polo has a high clutch, an Audi has a low clutch, the BMW has the clutch release in between those 2, falling more towards the Audi lowness, but very little. play with this for a couple short spins and you will realise the difference and it will get much better and smooth thereafter bru

Thanks for the feedback and tips guys. Appreciate them all!
@Coisman - sounds like fun but i hear that them Michelins don't give good mileage. The last i wanna do is burn some rubber:)
@killua - will give it a try..thanks..was asking about both normal takeoff and launching for a quick robo to robo dice:)
Thanks @Camiel, Z3mCoupe and aZZ_kIkR

The market research I have seen places Michelin tyres above all other brands when it comes to mileage.... Maybe someone isn't comparing apples with apples... As a sporty tyre you won't get the same mileage as a 14" econo tyre.
And btw, I have done many launches, and my rear tyres are in better condition than my fronts
