Key fob stopped working

This weekend my key fob stopped working. Its a newish one, was programmed a few months ago when the one key was stolen when they tried to steal my car.

It does not unlock or lock the car or trunk, but I can start the car with it once the vehicle is open....

Does it need new batteries?

Sounds like it, but your battery should last for quite a long time. You could always take it to BMW and see what they say though, maybe they can reprogram it again or something

My car is out of warranty, I stay far away from BMW

Does it have comfort access/keyless start? If so, the batteries probably need replacing.

The normal FOB is charged when you insert into into the slot in the dash

Its the Normal FOB, does not charge through the ignition either, Will see if I can open up the key.

From what I have heard you might have to replace the entire car

Is it an aftermarket key? If so, it's easy to change the battery

The coding was done by Butler Motorsport so I assume it is a aftermarket key.

Then its just the battery thats flat. The aftermarket keys open like comfort access keys, youll see a flap on the back.
