Key and odometer has different millage

I should be asleep but I suppose it's a positive sign that I'm on a BMW forum when wasted and not up to something worse!

Either way I would love to know the outcome of this. How easily is this 'cheating' detected from a BMW dealership and is it still so easy on the E90?

I'm quite sure I had an honest deal but I'd still love to know how easily people get screwed, I mean we get enough trouble just from ordinary issues with a stealership!

BMW said they would "investigate" and pull reports etc for R2500

Bull. A print-out cost NOTHING and even if they took the time to actually hook up a cable to your car, they still could only ask half an hour's labour.

R2500 is to scare you away. What are they hiding?

Incorrect, key is associated with the EWS (security system), and not the IKE (Cluster)

The EWS is aligned with the ECU, and therefore the key's are aligned with the ECU via EWS, cluster is just an add on.

Where are you based ?

Based in fourways.

also gonna give the Hello peter thing a try...

Alright buddy

Ran a VIN, Engine no, Reg, motorplan, Focus pro (BMW DEALERNET) and even a finance check on the car...

Got info of banks it has been with etc etc.

But none of this info correlates... It picks up that the engine exists but cannot find a VIN etc etc that is mated to said engine. I also ran it through our dealernet and the system threw out an error stating no car existed.

Please check the PM I sent you and confirm that everything is correct.

Mike

Ok. Ignore the PM. :banghead:

Some interesting info for you:

2007/01/02 - Mileage was at 142 000km.

That date and mileage was the last time it was recorded as serviced at a BMW Dealer.

However... No BMW comes up on the system when I run the VIN. Not sure why.... :mmm:

I do smell a smelly fishy.

:mmm:

shot for the info...this is very odd. But surely you cant register the car if the VIN and engine numbers are wrong.

It does make me feel a little better if the millage in 2007 was 142000km odd. That make the current millage seem accurate...just still odd about the key then.

Does anyone have Carte Blanche's number :)

AutohausAngel. I say it here cause they did nothing about it when I caught them out. So think twice before you buy from them.

Simple dude, how many kms was it on when you bought it?

Get the previous owner's details and ask him how much mileage was on the car when he traded it, also the time elapsed between him trading it in and you buying it to make sure it wasn't a pool car of some sort.

But 99% sure you've been conned, do yourself a favour and contact the prev owner.

dude it sounds like you got a raw deal - but you not alone - i bought a car made in in south africa in 2001 - left for mauritious in 2002 and returned to cape town n 2009 went to gauteng now in 2010 in Cape town with me.

Do a vin chck on the car - the BMW papers saysteh car is wSilver with black interior - but the car is very white with grey interior when i look at it lol - so JA we seem to be very stuck with bad luck.

I also found out that my car was bought by a dealership not BMW but FORD for as a company car lol - well i am going to BMW auto atlantic for a check - just dont know waht they going o find

[email protected] keep us updated on the outcome....

Almost bought a dummy...2nd hand dealership selling a 2004 320d for R89 000 with 110 000 on the clock, I went to dealership to get service records, car actually an early 2003 model. 2nd hand dealer refused to take the car for an inspection and there was no books, no extra keys.........just smile and walk away.

Bottom line is do your homework properly and do not be over eager or too emotionally when making the decision.

I really hope you can get to the bottom of this...

You cant even trust Agents

I came across this, worth the read

http://beta.mnet.co.za/carteblanche/Article.aspx?Id=1697

Quote:

Charlotte and Fred are a busy couple. Our investigation revealed that they have clients all over Gauteng - some of them accredited dealers at the high end of the market. While rejuvenating the Tazz, Fred made a startling admission.

Fred: 'I did a BM for BMW. It was a car that had 15 000km on it.'

Agent: "15 000?'

Fred: 'I put it down to 244km and they sold it as a brand new car."

Agent: 'Serious?'

Fred: [Nods] "Ja ... a big fucking dealer."

This is a very disturbing allegation, according to James Creighton, of BMW South Africa.

just an update - i came from Auto atlantic now my key does not belong to my vin number

How do something like that happen?? :dunno:

The original key of the car was faulty and they got another unit out of another car - replace the ecu as well i think and reprogramme the key - is that not just great - so i got different readings for different cars and i am driving 2 cars now lol

suspect the same thing happened to my car. But it still bother's me that the VIN and engine numbers don't tie up.

who can one talk to about these things. Do we have a legal guru on the forum? :)
