I believe, as was the case with my E38 ,will be the availabilty of parts, being an E46, I would think that the parts are not as rare locally as they were for the E38.
also with Santam
excellent although slow service

Parts to be used could not be sourced in SA, so import from Deutschland
this made the cost of repair too expensive
was given the offer to repair thru Santam, but utilizing second hand or pirate parts

but the "forumites" here convinced me to "walk away", and the "walk-away" price was totally respectable for me

i think the parts will be available...but i think its going to be expensive..im not sure what spray & assembly prices are but i would imagine it to be over R10 000

for sure

The secondary quotes I recieved from other panelbeaters was around the R14 000 to R17 000 range, and that was "pull" the front stifner, repair (fibreglass repair) the bumper fairings, pull the dent on the bonnet just above the kidney's, replace only the glass lense (not entire headlamp assy), pull and straighten the slight miss-alignment of the bonnet and side fender, respray bonnet.

So I would estimate a similar amount for you...if not more
and that isn't factoring in an major components to be purchased

good luck with whichever way you go

I was in a situation that the E38 was a "secondary car" only, and the insurance offer for a write off was almost what I paid for the car 5 years ago, and in todays economic climate, money in the bank is better than a second car standing in the garage

ok so you could choose to decline the secondary option.

Yes I could

I was given three options

1) write off value R58 000
2) write off and buy back the car (repair myself at my own time) R32 000
3) Leave it up to Santam and Plane road Panelbeaters to repair and deliver to me without questions asked as to where/how they sourced spares and how it was repaired

thank you for the information. did they asses & give you an answer or did they take it away to asses?

Nope wont be a write off.

if car is insured for 81, you can repair for 56k with Santam (70%) of value

Keep in mind that this is a E46, there are plenty second hand components, and even pirate, which your insurance is authorized to fit, if you check your policy "quality aftermarket parts" is a stipulation.

This car wont be written off unless you have chassis damage, which involves jigs and motor pulling and so forth, then you might get around the 60k repair mark,

However judging from the pics, not the case

no chassis damage. the Santam person said if the damage is 50% it will be written off. I'm going to see what happens. either way

I had to take it to an approved Santam panelbeater, for them to take photos and send the report to Santam

that is probably correct then, I told them I could drive short distances, because the PDC was damaged on mine, and the PDC tone was continuos, I coudn't turn it off, bar finding the correct fuse

I am with Leonard, I don't think it is write of, (bumper est. 15k, beading 600 bucks, fog light cover 1000est, paint 5/6k, indicator scarpyard find or 1200).

I doubt you will lose.

But what you should do is it bring to the track(like you said you want to) before it is to late next time. :tease:
