Jumping ship from Audi, some advice needed

Hi there folks.

As you can tell from the title, I'm busy crossing over from the dark-side, or should I say, coming over to the dark-side. :rollsmile:

I need some advice, I have gleaned some info from this very helpful forum (such as what dealers to contact, etc...).

I am very keen on ordering an F30 335i M-Sport Limited Edition with the following spec:
M-Sport Package
M Running gear
PDC
Connected Package
Mineral White
Electric Tow bar
Harmon Kardon
Limited Edition
PPK (ECU tune & Intake)
Exhaust Upgrade

Am I missing anything here that you think would be a must have?
I've decided against the Estoril Blue colour in the M-Sport, since most M-Sports I've seen are this colour. It's a stunning colour, but Mineral White looks quite good and is less common...

The M Running Gear option; any every day improvement in driving experience with this option, considering I'll only ever take the car to a track once or twice a year?

Has anyone seen an F30 in the metal in Laguna Seca Blue colour? From pictures it looks a little too 'blue pastel' to my eyes, and it's an extra R15K option on the Limited Edition spec.

On the commercial side of things, what kind (if any) discounts are the dealers willing to give for mid-high spec F30's?

I'm looking to keep the vehicle for max 3 years, then trade up for an M3 when budget allows :inlove:. What kind of residuals are you guys seeing the banks give out for F30 335i's these days?

I assume the vehicle will be built in Rosslyn, any idea of the lead times after ordering?

Anything else I should look out for that I've potentially not mentioned?

I know some of the above questions could be answered by a dealer, but until I'm ready to pull the trigger later this year, I'd like to get some opinions from current BMW fans.

I hope to later this year post some pics if everything goes well!

It's basically going to look like my car, except I added the parts when I bought the car almost a year ago. On the looks side I don't have the 20" wheels as they wanted R65k for them so fitted different wheels and I've colour coded some parts like the bottom lip of the front splitter, the side sills and the rear bootlid spoiler.

I use my car as a daily driver and it's still enjoyable, I also wouldn't mind getting the new M3 but flip for about 60% of the price I have a car thats on slightly inferior to the M in all aspects!! But hey maybe my mind will change depending on $$$

Oh regarding the colour the E46 M3 came out in that colour, you would have to find one to see what it looks like in the flesh, personally I've never liked it, even the M3 Yas Marina, I prefer a darker blue, but that's personal preference.

It is also coming out in Shakir Orange, also not really for me!

@skiet, will definately add the sunroof to the spec.

@justNN, if I'm not mistaken, the extended instrument cluster comes with the Connected package, so all good there.
The M-Sport brakes come with the Limited Edition, so am also covered there.
Will add the Xenons and the lights package as you suggested.

@bernard335, very neat car there bud, that Estoril Blue looks amazing! Maybe I should reconsider...

Any advice on the commercial side of things?

Did you have the Renault F1 previously?

Anyhows, I would definitely do Xenon lights as well. I love the comfort access on any car (keyless go basically).. but thats just me.

Agree with CocoPops comfort access is the best, you never need to take your key out your pocket again,open and lock doors and boot without even touching your key, lol it took me about 2 months to actually get use to not using a key

Just checked the website, I see they charging R50k extra, mentions nothing about MPPK (the ecu tune), or the exhaust, just cosmetic parts, so assume the MPPK and exhaust is additional.

On the cosmetics side the only things I don't have is the Blue MP brake calipers and the mirror caps, also my kit is the Matt black which I colour coded what I wanted and that those cosmetics cost me under R30k fitted and colour coded.

Seems a bit pricey!!, the only advantage is if it's a actual model maybe you will get a slightly higher resale value.

I also see the 20" style 405 wheels are optional, like I said I was quoted about R65000, but I have a feeling this will be an upgrade so it's not a case of you having 2 sets of wheels and Tyres.

Would be interesting to see the quote for those individual parts and if they have gone up a lot because of our phenomenal Rand!!

4 foor F30 sedans are built in Rosslyn. As I uunderstand it takes around 3 months from placing the order to having the car delivered. However similar speecced ones that could get cancelled after being ordered could come up earlier. That's if you're flexible on specs.

Either colour is great but personally the Estoril blue is a winner.

For the money, the extended cluster is a waste of time, go for the full digital. Have seen it and its really awesome.

That cloth interior looks very cool, but very difficult to clean. imagine cleaning a carpet that you sit on........ Yeah!

As for the colour, before the F30, Estoril blue was one of my favourite colours. Now, I am sick of it. everyone has it and its gotten very common.

The imperial white is great, but a problem for scratches and nicks, touch ups should you ever need one.

go for front and rear PDC.

Don't waste your money on the Harmon Kardon. Rather go aftermarket, there was a guy that tested the car with and without Harmon Kardon in the states, using decibel meters, sound clarity meteres etc and found that the difference is only marginal.

See if you can get rear window blinds for back passengers and rear windshield. Makes a big difference here summertime and looks good.

The R50K for the Limited Edition, yeah a bit steep for the cosmetic bits... But you do get the M-Sport wheels (not sure what they are called exactly) and the M-Sport brakes.

That excludes the PPK and the Exhaust system though, which will be another R27K I guess. :thumbdo:

As far as I understand, the included M-Sport brakes are the same R7000 option on the 335i pricelist, and all we get is the calipers painted blue? Are the discs not bigger and/or ventilated? Are there not more pistons in front?

If the answer is no then jirre, they can keep the Limited Edition.:thumbdo:

Its possible that I am a moron and don't understand how the components fit together and So I am telling you bullshit, but to me, better braking means better bigger actual brake pads that would need to fit into bigger cooler calipers.

Fitting stock pads into larger painted calipers do nothing.
A bit like buying XXXL condoms and you are sporting a lollipop stick.

This isn't a fight btw, I am also just trying to understand what the extra money actually gets you and whether in my opinion that's justifiable or value for money.

So if someone has a good handle on the parts and the "fit-together" of it all, please enlighten me.

Larger brake caliper tells me that the caliper will cover more surface of the brake discs...wouldn't the brake pads be bigger? or the brake piston bigger?

All I know is...it will brake better. I'm sure BMW will not tell you it has upgraded brakes and basically it is oem which is just painted....that is false advertising and they could get in big trouble....all over the world.

Performance wise I wouldn't get sunroof....just adds weight. But better for re sale value and if one actually uses it. Like mine...I rarely even open mine lol....so that is your choice solely.
(For me, I wouldn't even bother and eliminate the problems which one can have with the stupid sunroof...like sliders breaking, not opening or closing....I heard some stories that the sunroofs glass breaks when people fit stiff suspension/different wheels...the added resistance/vibrations can make the sunroof go boom...stupid stuff like that)

I would rather opt for the PPK and the exhaust for awesome sound....and it keeps your motor plan intact.

Cloth interior looks good to be honest. Would not have the scuff and wear&tear marks like leather..but I think it can be actually hard to clean it if something happens. Performance wise I think it could be a good choice....shedding some weight is always good
Oh and it will not be as hot as leather if your car stood in the direct sun.

Performance wise again....ill stick with the 19"....I'm sure the 20" would weigh more. (Remember... this is rotational weight)
And I'm pretty sure 20" will have a harder ride. (lower profile tyres most probably) and the cost to replace 20" RFT tyres will be more expensive hehehe....But hey...20" will look over lukka and fill the arches properly.

Are you going for the ZF 8 speed auto or manual transmission? I would opt for the awesome ZF 8 speed gearbox no doubt.
