Johannesburg - Where to buy Genuine Parts?

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have joined to find out how I can get my 2002 BMW 318ti fixed as cheaply as possible.

I have had a BMW dealership diagnosis done, and the work required is to replace the

- Crankshaft Sensor (B12 14 7 503 140), and the
- Camshaft Sensor - Exhaust (B 12 14 7 518 628)

BMW have quoted R3077 incl. for those two parts and R1500 for labour.

Can anybody assist me with information on how to do this for a lot cheaper, especially the procuring of the two parts.

Looks like I can get them shipped from the UK for R850, but I am not sure if those are genuine articles - www.worldcarparts.co.uk

Many thanks,

Andrew

Hi there and welcome to fanatics.. :)

First things first.. :)
Just having a look at the site and they say cheap but quality tells me it's not OEM... :)
go have a look at the section parts for sale/wanted.. you will see alot of topics discussing spares and where to get... from there you will find alot of links to OEM spares etc. :)

Hi

Also try the local Bosch Diesel Electric agent.

http://www.diesel-electric.co.za/

They should stock those items as well

Out of interest, that is 2 cam sensors and one crank...

Why is it that they want to replace all 3 sensors at once, you do that when you dont know what the problem is.

+1 on the diesel electric, also try a bosch service center..

WOuld be very helpful if you can describe what your car is doing ?

Thanks for the Diesel Electric suggestion - great personell on the phone, but unfortunately they don't stock the two sensors I am looking for.

They did however recommend 'Autofever' in Selby, who appear to have the parts - spoke to two different people who gave completely different prices... one of them being R100 cheaper than the bmw dealer price.. so I'll stop by there and take a look. And give feedback on the Autofever experience.

Hey Zaleonardz

Thanks for the interest.
Yes, there is one Crankshaft sensor, and 2 Camshaft sensors (exact same part number for these). I only need one for the exhaust.

I have had the car diagnosed at the BMW dealership, so I know what is required, but in short, the car is bucking every now and then (getting more and more frequent). Revs will just die for a second then shoot back up, battery light comes on. I believe this is the exhust cam sensor part of the problem.

As time has gone on, the bucking has become more frequent, and sometimes more intense with multiple 'bucks', ultimately ending in the ASC warning lights coming on, a beep, and the car dying and being un-able to start for a few minutes. Not cool in Joburg traffic. I believe this part of the problem will be solved by the crankshaft sensor.

All thoughts will be appreciated, but after much research I think I am on the right track here...

Cheers,

A.
