Jezebel sick... again + Supa Quick RANT

So... here is a RANT... There are two parts to this story, the first part being a rant at SupaQuick for being useless and possibly causing me to write off my car or worse. The 2nd problem is the one I really need help with from the fanatics. So, please read and let me know your thoughts on the 2nd.

Had new brake pads brought in for Jezebel via Burgy from Project Shift, I was extremely busy with work the past month, so I had the car taken to supaquick by someone else, so that the pads could be installed.

Car was returned to me the same day, all well and good. Car drove fine for a few days but I started noticing a small shudder and noise on the left hand side. I called burg and said, "who the hell installed these pads cause I don't think they did the job right." I ask him to come over and take a look.

No jokes, as I reverse out my garage and lightly tap the brakes, the top half of the left side calliper falls back against the rim of the car. BURGY immediately yells at me to stop and his face of HORROR explains all. The Calliper literally moves off the brake disk and floats back as I brake.

A damn bolt was missing.

SO Burgy and I find the bolt that had come off and he installs it correctly.

Had this happened while I was on the highway, I would have lost control of the car and possibly been killed or had killed someone else. NOT VERY SAFE SupaQuick... This is a fucking joke.

I'm extremely pissed off.

In the below images you can see the caliper sitting slightly back, its supposed to be directly vertical, not slanted back.

NOW.. the 2nd point of this rant.

I've been complaining about the Jezebel's loss of power higher up in the RPM range. When running another M3, I can pull away on lower RPM only to have him reel me in again at top end. This has never happened before and I know my car, I can feel when something is not right.

We originally thought it was a fuel filter issue, but with that out of the way, we ran diagnostic codes at Leonard yesterday and we find out the following code. (095) 5F Exhaust VANOS, Adaptation.

From doing some research, this is either cause by a failed Solonoid, which mine was replaced no more than 7000km ago (under 2 years). Another cause is that the Vanos may not have been installed correctly during the previous Engine rebuild over december... None the less, what is happening is the Vanos is not changing the angle of the exhaust cam to the correct degree.

Any Vanos experts here that can give me some advice cause this just pisses me off. I've spent a shitload of money fixing this car, and i'm tired of these little hidden surprises. Lee at Gtech has booked the car in for Monday next week and he's going to get down to sorting it out, but my concern is, what exactly is the problem. So, can anyone here help me out here and point me in the right direction as to how the hell do I sort this out.

As always, love the forum and love this car... I'm not giving up on Jezebel. So I don't want to hear any suggestions of selling the car. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Here are the error codes I received from yesterdays Diagnosis...

We should have a thread in here naming and shaming faulty workmanship.
I took my car in for a simple head gasket removal, after 4 attempts they eventually got it right, however they didn't line the timing chain up properly, it broke.
End result total engine replacement.
Cost R101990.00
And I didn't get a refund for their shitty work.

All those codes will cause a loss of power. Infact you do and probably always had a loss of power in the lower rpms but you did not notice it...a proper log on a dyno or the road would have showed it up. Secondly, the solenoid is possibly shot. Test & Replace it.

As twins said all 4 codes will cause the engine to power back either at the bottom or the top of the power band, cure all 4 errors before expecting her to be back in action... Perhaps you should invest in an inpa cable from eBay, I found it very useful in self maintainence... And lastly when you having your car worked on either do it yourself of be there when its done...

Hope you come right soon..

Am thinking of taking the car to TuneTech and letting them sort it out. As much as lee did a great job rebuilding the engine and putting her back together, he's not a BMW specialist and I don't expect him to know the intricacies of the double Vanos system.

Thoughts. I know some people don't like Tune Tech, but I am left with very little options here.

Please notify Supa Quick, they need to shoot a worker! :nonono: As for Jezzy, sorry to read more woes. Can't help, I'm afraid, I don't know the system well enough. Good luck.

Give supaquick hell....

FYI all modern cars use a split braking system so one can always stop the car if the brakes fail.

However in your case the loose caliper could have jammed between the hub wheel at speed which is not good

Shit Chris, I feel for you man. Exact same thing happened to my golfie about 6 years ago. I just came to a stop and the caliper fell off lodging inside the wheel locking it. So much worse that this is on your Pride and joy!

I wouldn't mind having a toi toi at this place discouraging all clients until they compensate you somehow. This is disgusting. Road rage inducing!

Trying to look up those codes found this new post.

Hey Andy, thanks man.

Yes, I've read that page. Actually have had it bookmarked for a while now. Use it to see all the codes our S54's have.

My problem now is not the code, but actually fixing it, as the code only tells me where the problem is, not how to fix it or what actually is wrong. So I guess Vanos test is needed. But who does such a test apart from BMW who will charge me an arm and a leg?

The adaptation part is now my worry. As further research points towards a failed solenoid, or the vanos is unable to adapt the cam timing.

If I can help it, I try to do some basic stuff myself - I simply don't trust some of these "expert" franchises like Supaquik - :thumbdo: Lucky you found out in a driveway and not on the highway.

As for TuneTech, I've been using them for a few years and they are good, especially with older cars and would recommend them
