Really sorry bud, it truly sucks big time, i had my astras engine redone 3 times in 2 years, had a huge issues with the engineers and i went through 3 of them until i cut my losses and sold the car, my mistake was using the same mechanic. If i had taken it to another workshop i would most probable still have that car. :nonono:

Osiris is right, get the car out of there get a new head

Thanks guys.

I'm feeling a little bit stronger about it today.

Hell, this car is so amazing and when she did work, she blew every other M3 i drove against out the water. Andy is right, she's not just a normal M3, she can't just simply be replaced.

I'm going to spend the time and money needed to get her working and looked after. She deserves it and doesn't need to be another S54 thrown away and abandoned.

She'll be back.

And I'm changing her name...

LMAO.... call her angel :roflol:

Hell's Angel :mmm:

You guys are not going to believe this.

The head was pretty much finished. 30 minutes away from completion. Jezebel is now sitting ready waiting for the head to be put back inside her, when suddenly, whilst installing the last Valve Stem Seal, it cracked and broke.

This is in fact, the new stem seal from Vac motorsports. So we've emailed them asking whats the story? We have two extra seats that they sent along with the valves, but we don't want to take a chance and find out these seats are defective and they break when the car is under load. These things should be able to handle massive stress when inside the engine, not just snap when being put into the head.

So once again, another snag appears in my rebuild of Jezebel. I would have had her back by this Saturday had this not broken this morning.

What is going on here? I mean, I have such shit luck. One thing after another.

Anyway, here is the part that broke...

I dont get it.
You are talking about a valve seat and a valve stem seal, yet the picture you show looks like that of a broken valve retainer.
So my question is - do you have 2 extra seats, seals or retainers?

Maybe this one was just a dud, because as you said - the stuff from VAC are supposed to be good quality

LOL. You guys are nutters.

Hey Fordkoppie, apologies for the mixup. There are so many conflicting names for these parts and I was in such a down mood when I wrote that post.

What is broken is called a 6mm Hardened Valve Lock, also known as a keeper, sometimes called a Taper. The Valve Stem seals are fine.

What was broke the week before was a retainer, also known as the upper spring plate, I have since replaced that with a new one from BMW thanks to Tune Tech helping me source that part.

This Keeper that broke is supposed to be a Hardened metal one that can take much more stress than the original keepers, apparently able to rev up to 12000Rpm, thus giving the extra safety for miss-shifts and over revs.

They are single groove keepers as opposed to triple groove that the OEM ones use. THe Valves are also Single Groove, so they fit perfectly. Single Groove Keepers and Valves are found in most race cars and can handle long endurance races season after season before being replaced.

its very very weird as to why this keeper broke when being placed into the Engine. We are waiting for Vac to get back to us. The person we spoke to had no clue as to why it would break, we are getting the head engineer at Vac to call us tonight. Obviously time zone differences between us and the USA make correspondence difficult.

Just to keep everyone on that same page.

The part that broke is part 12 in the diagram below.

It fits inside the retainer and holds onto the valve via the groove at the top of the valve.
