JB4 for M2

Hey guys. Just want your advice. Got offered a jb4 from a m235i for my M2 for R7500. I've read on bimmer post that the M2 isn't showing much gain over stock with JB4 if run on pump gas due to the fact that M2 is just a tuned m235i engine. What do you guys reckon ? Should I go for it or it jist a waste of money? I have downpipe installed so if I run the JB4 i could run map 2 but will probs need higher octane fuel than 95 pump fuel.

Also, another worry is that map 1 already runs up to around 18-19 psi and would I need a aftermarket charge pipe ?

Unless you can get something with substantial gains, I wouldn't bother.

I would assume the gains would be the same as the M135 and M235.
So you won't see much of a difference on pump fuel, but would get a huuuuge gain with ethanol!!

I also can't use map 5 which my understanding is the automating map due to the overbooked function.

According to BMS, on 91 oct (same as 95 here) they don't even recommend using it. But on 98 or ethonal you see some gains without a proper tune. But I don't really want to run octane all the time. The car is octane hungry the boost is raised.

I honestly don't think the car runs bad at all with normal pump fuel and map 2 (I think).
I would say buy the JB

Its not exactly the same n55 as in the m235i AFAIK, apparently the crank and head from the S55 have been used in the M2.

Map 1 and Map 2 request 3 and 6psi above stock boost. Should be safe to run either.

Not aware of what the overbooked function is?

I agree with most of the guys here - Ethanol FTW.
JB results are further amplified with good fuel.

You are correct about the engine and it stock runs around 15-16 psi so map one rises up to around 18 psi and map 2 up to 20.

BMS recommends map 1 with 98 Oct or ethonal and maps 2 with some bolt on parts but with 98 Oct it's runs at +-350 WHP up from 330 WHP. And since I'm not keen on more effort than putting in 95 pump gas I'm not sure it worth it. But on the contrary I would like to run an intake and the jb4 would help with an CEL's.

Leave as is. Like the guys above say, all the gains are from running better fuel. The minimal gains you might get would not be worth the risk of losing MP.
You might lose out to some modded x35's but you still got the better car.

How are you running the downpipe on your car? The JB would assist with the CEL associated with running catless downpipes etc...

If it were my car, I would leave it as is. Iv seen your car on the road and it has more then enough presence

Thank you man. I have a mini cat in to trick the Ecu and so far it hasn't given me any problems other than a strange rough idle on cold starts and lots of smiles.

Originally, I just wanted to install an intake such as the BMS one and then leave the car as is but heard the BMS intake throws a CEL without a JB4 and then I got offered one last night.

But I'm on the wall about it.

JB4 does assist with increasing boost levels, but to suggest that all the benefit is as a result of boost alone is inaccurate.

Where are you based? I have a BMS intake - you're welcome to check if your car throws a CEL with it.

A drop in filter is also a notable improvement over stock intake sound.
Could also try that.

If you're not looking for more power then there really is no use in installing a JB4 IMHO.

Woodies is right you do have the better car. :coolShake:

I'm just going on what I've read on bimmerpost. Apparently it does it on the M2 for some unknown reason. Luckily I've got a friend who is stripping at the end of the week for a service and he will borrow me the BMS intake and I will take it for a spin.

I think it's better to save the money and rather use it for some cosmetics mods like a front splitter or something soon. The car is plenty fast as it is. Just always that little itch for more power no matter what car.[FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

I think your best bet would be ATS Motorsport - is the airbox the same as the M235i? If so, got a used BMC you can try.
