JB3 for 135i in JHB

Sherwin, I agree. It's not going to be easy to gain the full benefit of the plug-ins...sure gonna be a challenge: (So the way I see it, you need to just graft away and find the optimum settings here.)

Hence the reason, we decided to follow a cautionary, testing approach with Baracus' 135. I hope it turns out well.

Hey guys, I live in jhb and recently installed my jb3 2.0 into my 135i and routed the data logging cable through the cubby. I ran some logs the other day and sent them into Terry and within minutes was sent new settings for our altitude, the difference is a much smoother map 3. I haven't tried any other maps yet as i need to get hold of some higher octane petrol, from what i understand it's only safe to run map 5 with 98 octane and greater. The new 2.0 firmware is MUCH better then the old 1.4, I will be able to tell you by how much when i get a chance to go to snails for a quick dyno. I ran the old 1.4 firmware on an auto 335i (courtesy car, haha) and only got a measly 218wkw, which was very disappointing! In all honesty i think that car was a little stuffed, but it will help me in my comparison. Will keep you guys posted :)

howzit going pacz.. Hope u didnt abuse that loaner while u had it :)
Baracus has also done some work on his 135, with custom settings. Will be interesting to compare the 2 cars dynos.
We will also get a CTN car with 2.0 only on the dyno.

Hi Pacz, great to see there is a fellow JB3'r in JHB :thumbsup:
Have also recently been doing some JB3 logs (through the cubby) & BT logs (using BT cable to OBD port) for Terry. The JB3 & BT logs measure different parameters. Terry helped me set up a custom map (Map1) and my car seems to be running very strong. Currently on 95 RON I'm running the following settings:

Global
pwmmin: 35
min target: 6
max target: 6.75
taper: 32
bogfix: 50

MAP1 Custom
Torque = 72
Power = 32
Fuel = 100
iat = 11
lagfix = 100
Boost limit = 17 (thats only for if you accidentially hit a boost spike over 17 PSI it kicks it back down to the stock map 0)

Also tried some Torco octane booster from RGM (should at least be the equivalent of 98 RON) with the following settings (very similar to map 5):

Torque = 76
Power = 36
Fuel = 100
iat = 11
lagfix = 100
Boost limit = 17
Car was really farking off, spinning through the lower gears!:shocked:

Please also post if you receive any further strong settings from Terry. Am very intrerested to see the results once you have dyno'd? Think I'll only be able to make it to Snail next week.

Eish...the world looks so much better with a JBEEE under the bonnet...have fun guys. :clap:
Remember to enable the traction control via the JB interface...should help with the wheel spin in lower gears...!

Ok my settings are similar, a bit more conservative, but Terry just sent me some settings which are pretty much the same as yours.. got a dyno done today @ snails and did a 220kw and 476nm at the wheels on 95 unleaded. All of this was done on map 3 with the older settings. I thought my KW reading was a little low but the torque seemed fine. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions... BTW, Baracus: with your custom map 1 were you running 95 unleaded or octane booster (98 unleaded)? Also when you accelerate, does it feel smooth through the rev range or can you feel "boost spikes"?

excellent start guys...:thumbsup: just remember this is a tuning process....to find the right and best settings for your car at altitude. Map 3 and even the settings for map 1 provided by Terry is based on the datalogs provided to him. Map 3 is the default map...in other words; the first map out of 13 maps...The map 1 you are exploring is just a based map specifically for altitude; the more power mods you have, the more tuning can be done and extra custom maps will be developed for your specific car. In other words you might end up with a few custom maps based on your mods and you can switch between them as you require...that's the goal anyway.:thumbsup:

Not bad at all!

Hopefully BM would have the fuel pump sorted on our 135i today. So maybe we can hook up sometime and compare xcede + homemade dci against JB + BMS DCI :D

Biofreak tell us more about the homemade DCI...I have been looking at a DCI concoction for Twinz as well but seem to end up again with the stock airbox and drop in filter...look forward to your thoughts on this

I basically have two 63mm (iirc) inlet cone filters and two straight pipes connecting to the turbo inlets. Same as BMS, just homemade :p

Would you be able to PM me a picture? I am really interested. I am also a firm believer that we do not have to import things if it can be succesfully done at home.I am currently looking at a system that utilises the stock airbox....kind of working around the box...:thumbsup:

Well done Baracus, I believe you did 231kw and 490nm at Snail. That's a great improvement for altitude, 21wkw gain is not to be scoffed at. Terry rox!

Thanks Sherwin. I've still got a bit of work to do though to get to the 235-240wkw mark. Still experimenting to find the optimal settings, trying some new firmware so hopefully next time I'll be right on the expected numbers for a tune at our altitude ;)

Sherwin, thx for the comment and encouragement to the JB guys. We appreciate it. :thumbsup:

A question for you and Anile...
From your experiences what are the average figures for a tuned only 335/135 at the highveld (irespective of the tune) on the highveld dyno's?? This will also help rennzport with our gauging/planning :thumbsup:
