For the past 4 tanks, I've been running Liqui Moly Octane Plus (supposedly 99 RON if mixed with 50l of 95 pump fuel). I was interested to see if there was actually any difference so I took the car to Ian's Auto Clinic for some dyno runs and logging. This is the same dyno (Hyper Power Dyno) I used previously.

Dyno.jpg

Car made 279.7 wkW and 464 wNm

The shop had just finished up on a hybrid N55 M2, which made 220 wkW stock on the same dyno.

Previous pump fuel only run for reference:

Granted the sensors on the dyno were starting to fail when I did these runs (these have been replaced now hence the smooth graph), you can see how the OB doesn't necessarily make more power but rather more consistent power. Safe to say I'm happy with the results.

Regarding the effect OB has on plugs etc, I'll have to wait and see. Will check tomorrow and report back. But for now, I plan to run the OB on every tank and throw in some Liqui Moly Pro-Line Fuel System Cleaner every now and then.

Happy to report that the logs (ignition, fuel, delivery, requests, motor specific torque limiter etc) look great too! Nothing out of order and the car is behaving as expected from an OTS Stage 1 tune. There is a little room for improvement to refine the graph but I'm not too concerned at the moment with the car running stock hardware. Possibly custom tune if I go down the headers + middle box route.

In other news, I'll be attempting to install the partial carbon fiber intake tomorrow. I've also ordered some 265/30/19 Toyo R888Rs that will be mounted onto my OEM rear rims for the next upcoming drag event.

Update 15:

Over the weekend, with the help of a friend, we managed to install the carbon fiber "snorkels" for the intake. Fitment of this unit was okay but required some drilling and tweaking. I must say that it was quite rewarding working on the car and figuring out how to get the kit to work. On a side note, I never realised how sore one can get from working on a car 😂

Took a bit of trial and error but we finally got there. The only issue is that the piping that goes into the airbox is a little too thick for the engine cover to sit flush so I'll be looking at sourcing some thinner piping to get this to work. Will also source some cap screws to replace the eye sore machine screws that came with this kit.

Filters in the airbox still look new (replaced in June 2023). These are OEM filters but will look at replacing them with some BMC filters later this year.

While the airbox was off, we decided to take a look at the the spark plugs as well.

Bearing in mind that these were replaced in June last year, they don't look too bad (to my eyes at least - please chime in for us novices 🙏) There is a significant deposit of orange particles (I'm assuming it is from the MMT in the octane booster) but besides that there were no cracks on the porcelain or signs of damage on all eight spark plugs. Will replace these plugs in about 5 000 kms.

Front brake pads will also need replacing soon. I've also ordered some red seatbelt webbing for the front two seats as well. Keen to get this fitted.

Nice, with regard to the Octane Booster, would the addition of liqui moly used as per the dilution ratio still be at risk of damaging plugs?

Are you asking if the LM octane booster will damage the plugs if you follow the correct dilution ratios? If yes, the answer is I don't know yet...

Out of sheer excitement, I went and bought 15 bottles of it 💀 So over the course of the next few months, I'll be cycling between between pump fuel, LM OB + pump fuel and pump + LM Injection Cleaner. Will report back and let you know 🫡

With stock tune, these cars pull timing due to poor fuel quality (think the same goes for the E9x M3s), hence why I wanted to run an OB. In saying that, I haven't (personally) logged the car on pump fuel since the tune but the logs (which I can post here if anyone is interested) with OB were 💯. Will log the car on pump and compare as well.

Update 16:

My pet peeve with this car has always been the gearbox.

The MCT in the facelifts is an improvement over the 7G Tronic (pre facelift) but it still isn't really that engaging. So much so that I never used the paddles. Sure, the upshifts are pretty quick, even for today's standards but once you start moving up and down the gears, it's not as responsive as something like the DCT in the E9X M3.

Enter BoosTech SA

I got to know about them through the recent drag event I attended. After some lengthy conversations and some reference checking, I decided to give them a try. This was a big risk for me, as I had never heard of BoosTech before but boy was I wrong.

After doing the TCU tune, the gearbox shifts have become marginally more quicker, up and down. It also feels more suited to the power delivery of the car all the while retaining that OEM+ feel. The TCU tune has by no means turned this into a PDK like gearbox but there is a definite improvement.

Additionally, they have loaded two new maps and adjusted the traction control settings and launch control.

I am extremely happy with the car as is and look forward to building a relationship with them. Got some exciting plans for the car in the pipeline but more on that later.

Update 18:

Did some Dragy runs over the past two weekends. Was quite impressed with the 0 to 100 time in particular. Even with an open differential, the power is put down quite effortlessly which pretty much goes against every W204 C63 review out there saying that these cars are undrivable.

In all honesty, I feel like the W204 C63 doesn't get the praise it deserves. Sure, it doesn't handle like an M3 but it holds its own and with some decent tyres and traction control in Sport, the power is both playful and useable. Traction off (especially with a tune) is another story though 😅

In other news, I've got my eye on a W204 P31 C63 Coupe. Car will be going in for a 5 000km oil service next week. Will run through the whole car and make sure everything is in order and then put her up for sale in the next month or so.

I will also be reverting the car back to stock (so flash ECU & TCU back to factory spec) and remove the partial carbon intake. Sale will include the IW Automotive wheels.

Please feel free to PM me if you are interested in purchasing the car.
