:excited: Picked up the car this evening :excited:
1997 E36 328i Metallic green. This is the start of the transformation from road cruiser to track toy. I will be honest, this has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. From way back in the late eighties/early nineties standing on the sidelines @ Killarney I always said "I want to race one day." or something along the lines of "I want to be able to afford that one day."
So now I have.
Myself and another member on the forum, Jeff, have gone into this venture together. The driving time might be shared, but so are the costs, thus making it easier for us both to have some fun with a rwd car.
So I picked up the car at 6:30pm and by 7:30pm it already tried to kill me. Yes thats right, Kill me.
Driving home to Tableview I knew that I would hit traffic along the M5. While sitting for about 30mins bumpertobumper stop start stop start, the temp rose slightly. Not even to the first line after the midway point, but just below it. Now with the work done on the engine (all R10k) sorting out the heating problem; I was paranoid to say the least. As I realized it I pulled over as soon as I could. Shut the engine off, *SH!T, Heat surge!! Start the engine again!* Start engine, allow car to idle for about 2-3mins, and "Hey presto!" the heat starts to drop (Let out a sigh of relief and checked if I had "sharted" myself. Nope nothing... Safe.
Now ready to go again, heart beat back to normal but carefully listening to the engine and eye on the temp gauge, I signal to turn out to the right(now bare in mind I need to cross to the far right lane) *Check blindspot, handbrake down and I'm off. A sudden sick feeling took over in milliseconds when I heard that all well known sound of the steering lock clicking while turned right and my foot lightly pressed on the accelerator. I almost go STRAIGHT ACROSS BOTH LANES WITH THE STEERING LOCKED!!!
Now this is where I love the fact that we as humans have an adrenal gland. God's NOS button for humans. LoOvely mod.
Instinct takes over and I pulled so hard that I pulled it free(I dont think it had completely locked but it was stuck), managed to brake and correct enough as to limit myself from going through the bushes and into incoming traffic. Yes, I would have been THAT guy that you drive passed that's crashed his car in to oncoming traffic during peak hour and you say to yourself "How The F did he do that?"
KFM and Goodhope would have had a great time reporting on that.
Then I remember the guy saying that you need to jiggle the key or something after starting it as the lock doesnt unlock easily at times. He neglected to say that it might LOCK while driving. Made it home, had a nervous chuckle and now looking to see how to remove the dammed thing.
Checked youtube, google, I couldnt find anything helpful. Any1 know or have a link to a forum post that can help?
Will post pics in the morning when I get to work.
