Lets say, you have the disposable income, you really want a new M3, you will not be selling the car in 3 months time, and your looking for a pride and joy for a good couple of years.

Buy it, its your cash, and nobody can/will/should tell you what to do.

HOWEVER, do not, I mean do not even consider for the tiniest second to go and finance the whole 1.2m or even worse with a 60% residual or something, cause if you did that, you have to be one of the dumbest people on the planet. ANd yea, I have many folks calling me saying that I owe 800k on my car, the dealer offered me 300k in trade in, what do I do....

You have a daily so get something special.

997.2 GT3 is a winner

This. They have bottomed out at about 1.2, and I'm almost certain they will appreciate.

I think it is downright silly to look at a car from a purely economical point of view, especially a car such as this!

Either you want it or don't want it. Money is a secondary consideration in some spheres. By the same thinking one could opt for Frisko, instead of Kopi Luwak, Mr Price jeans instead of Guess/Levis/Replay etc.

Do all of you buy the cheapest of everything? If the answer is yes then you're not a hypocrite, well done.
The point is not if one can afford it or not... Its value... Would you pay R20000 for an iPhone 6? I wouldn't... Would I mind one? Yes of course... Wife wants it... I like nice things... So i will buy it if I think the price is right... Btw I don't wear guess or Levis... I only do G star and True religion :)... Kidding

I worked damn hard for my money without any charity handouts from anyone... So I will consider the value price ratio in everything material that I purchase... Be it a cellphone, house or car...

Exactly my opinion....all a question of personal value...and that was the reason to buy a CSL....

I agree with not financing 1.2 bar , that's just too expensive in the long term. Like the initial poster, it is best to by it cash. Most people do so with bonuses or other sources of cash. Also, i am of the opinion that if you can truly afford 1.2 bar or more for a car then depreciation should not be in your vocab !!! You would see value in getting a bestie like that brand new. ...

Thats just me though....:cartel:

if i could i would by the Ferrari 458:crazylaugh:

I drove the car and I drove a 997 turbo.. Yes the turbo is older now, and they similarly priced. The m4 is fast and a good car no doubt, is it special like a 997 turbo? definitely imo not. The question is which one would one choose a 997 turbo or a Bmw m4... Agree with babyboss you buy what you like... Don't think my heart was on this m4 from the start... If I was looking for the ultimate daily drive, the M4 would be it actually the M3... With a 458 speciale as my weekend car. Right now I ain't in that league so my daily is a golf and I just don't see another awesome daily car as my weekend special... Just my opinion... Dunno if I'm making sense?

A c63 black series is special and an occasion a r8 v8 as well (albeit old and slow by today's standards )... The m3 m4 good functional cars

Been thinking the same....
I'd go new Boxster or 997....
Reason, 997 a lot of car for the money now and they generally well looked after.
New Boxster, for some reason the boxsters hold value

But consider an E30 M3 as a weekend car, cost you plus of 500k but you have an asset and a great car
Yeah exactly... New cayman and boxster are awesome (had the new cayman awesome car... But I wouldn't mind an s version or gts version of it)

Right now my options would be another house :) a 991 carrera s... A gt3 997.2... C63 black... All of which are in that similar price bracket of the m4 (second hand of course)

You can always buy a R1,000,000 car and get yourself some Armani Jeans and a Chanel bag for the wife. :roflol: The bag has the best value to price ratio trust me.

Good choice. 20's is a looker. I timed my 328i 0-100 at 5,59 and it only has 14000km. Its really a well balanced machine. Merc c250 and audi 2lt T has no show.

Sorry. Wrong thread. Lol. M4 is boss btw

I don't mean to offend anyone who has bought the m3 m4... Its a very good car, in fact some people might see the Bmw being a bargain at the price it's selling at. A few friends have bought this car and have had much more serious machines before that i could only dream of. For me personally there are other choices at this price point. We all unique have different needs, different thought processes and these are just mine based on my experience with cars.

A gt3 gen 2 around R1.4 (if I look hard)
A c63 black series is also about R1.3 ish

So they might be a little more than the Bmw but in my opinion better value. In fact I think it's wrong to compare these two cars to the Bmw.

Or I'd buy a house for the same price :D

People who have bought the new one... Enjoy it, and am sure you are... Its a damn good car...

Get the Black.... :fencelook:
Although I agree, buying brand new is just crazy. There are people who love the brand new car smell and there are some who love to rock up to the neighbourhood with their brand spanking new car.
Personally, I love knowing the history of my car rather than buying someone else's problems....but I really have to love the car in order to do that
