Hi all
When I got my x3 it had 101'k km I removed the engine cover to check the engine out and the plastic engine cover had like a rubber installation. Under it that was in perfect condition and looked new.
Today I took of the cover. At 113 k Km to check out the engine and the rubber insulation just crumbled apart like bread crumbs ,nothing has been spilled on it and the engine runs normal temp The temperature needle is half way were it has always been
Anyone experienced this:thumbs:

:fencelook: strange - did you by any chance wipe down the cover with any cleaner of sorts ?

You have heard the story "Let sleeping dogs Lie" and if it aint broken don't fix it. Im certain that its has something to do with things like that, but if my memory serves me correct - my old man would never use the same gaskets twice.

I meant when you had it off - did you clean down the cover of the excess oil (inside of the rubber gasket). well maybe its time to check all rubber gaskets if thats one example.

I am talking about the plastic engine cover. That has some sound deadning matirial on the inside of it this matirial seems to have decintegrated
There is no oil leaks or gaskets on it.
The engine cover not the tappit cover

Sounds like underhood temps just cooked/degraded it over time...just replace and it should be fine for many more miles.
