Is there a data base on the BMW engine numbers?

I have bought an e46 and the engine number now is not the same as on the motorplan history. Is there any way to know how old and what engine it is? The worst of all, the previous owner did not inform me about this and i feel that this is the type of info you need to get from the seller. I was just a bit slow to pick this up. The car is a 323i and on the motorplan it is a 320i. On the RWC it state 110kw, 2500cc. Completely wrong as well. I feel like giving the previous owner some shit regarding this.

Freerider, now i know it is supposed to be a 320i. The badge at the back is a 323i. I know that an engine swop was done. How do i know what engine is in the car. Is there a site where i can use the engine number to find that out?

engine transplanted from a wrecked vehicle. If the engine number doesn't match the registration documents you have a problem... at some piont if it needs to go for inspection and they pick it up you will have to get police clearance that its not a stolen engine.

All numbers match up, I had to do a clearance Feb with the renewal of the license after they had scrapped it in September last year when it was recovered after the theft, have a look under my posts for the full story and photos of that, so ja I know the numbers are correct. (and yes it's a nice code 3 now:banghead
