Ipod Integration e46

Hi guys!

I've always read the forum though, some great info here..

I am looking for an Ipod integration solution for my e46 with Harman Kardon. I've been asking around and most dealers seem to fit Dension products. However, the Dension kit does not let me control the music from the Ipod itself, which is a must for me.
Some dealers have also recommended that I install a Parrot bluetooth kit which has an Ipod input. I also want to avoid this as Parrot devices use its own built in amp instead of the factory fitted (HK in my case).

Any ideas on other options and where I can get it fitted?

SMAC supplies the DENSION kit for R1800. I have one in my car and love it.

Can you please clarify on "control the music"?

Hmm, your journey is a difficult one. I dealt into this a while ago. Eventually replaced the head unit with a OEM looking e46 navigation unit with a2dp (audio over bluetooth) which works via car amp.

I have an Ipod touch and I want to be able to navigate through the music on my Ipod itself (Purely because of the amount of music I have, as well as some cool apps for music that are available)

As far as I understand, Dension disables the ipod and only lets you control the music through the head unit and steering controls. Is that correct?

I've actually seen a few products online, but I am wary of importing electronics. If the product is faulty, I might as well say goodbye to the money I paid for it.

it replaces your CD changer.

you can control via the radio/steering wheel, or the ipod/iphone. it also charges 5V usb

I don't know how I missed it! I think I might just bite the bullet with this one. It seems like it does what I want it to.

I noticed that the review was posted in 2010, any issues with the product?

Mine still works directly off the ipod and i can plug in the ipad and watch movies in surround sound as well.

As far as i know you have the option of using the car controls but can still work directly off the ipod

Oh wow ok. I went to a dealer and one of the guys that fits the Dension told me I couldn't do that. It was probably an old model or something. Which model do you have?

one thing, is that it doesnt show text on the radio, only track number. not sure about the denison gateway 100, will let chris chime in

Thanks Chris, that is indeed correct. Did a quick search last night, found youtube videos that showed the Gateway 100 being able to be used from the ipod as well as through the head unit. Guess the guy that told me about it was misinformed.

Great set up Chris! Very neat. Thanks for the visuals! This is more or less the set up I'm going for. I want to mount my ipod touch somehow on the outside of the sunglasses compartment, where I can operate it in landscape mode. I guess I'll worry about that once I have the actual kit sorted!
