Returned on Monday from a trip to Upington and back. Car fully loaded. Myself ,the wife, my kids and a friends daughter, all luggage went in, even my daughter's two hamsters in their cage. Cruise control on 140km/h in 6th gear I did 9.8l/100km down, and 10.5l/100km back. Overtaking was a ease, didn't even feel like a big heavy fully loaded car.

I agree, its not bad at all, especially for such a big car.

As much as i like looking at consumption, sometimes the comfort and safety have to override this.

I think for the size of the vehicle.., that is awesome consumption but the space and comfort is worth more than the consumption. I for one know the impact of having space especially with family and kids.....

Charlton, I am not sure which motor my buddy has.., i dont want to ask as he might get really disappointed if he has the same motor as you.. lol

Honestly speaking, its difficult for me to say which is best. The BMW had better handling around the corners as the center of gravity was not as high. The ride in the Journey is smoother though and as it has more space, better comfort for the family, so they don't mind long distances between stops.

That said, there is plans in the near future to let the Hyundai go, to get another 3 series, as a daily.

What always worries me about American cars is the finish. I sat in a new Caliber a couple of years ago, and could not believe the panel gaps and the plastic burs on the air vents.

Has this been improved upon?

A colleague had a calibre, and his had no such issues. My one swaer is on his 3rd jeep now, got a 2015 Grand Cherokee, and no issues there or any panel gap issues, neither on my Journey.
