Introducing My 2004 E46 330i M-Sport

Well, I suppose while I am at it I can include a mini update.

Have now done 2 x oil changes since I got the car with Shell Helix Ultra, and replaced the serpentine belt. I have also bought an OEM expansion tank and cap awaiting fitment.

I had my 10inch sub installed very neatly, with the amp in the CD Shuttle cubby hole, and upgraded to the BMW Professional RDS Head unit.

Some shitty interior pics:

Current Plans:

OEM Xenon Retrofit - imminent, just waiting to buy a few bits and pieces to complete the set up
New Gear knob, new centre storage tray.
Piano black trim - have the trim, just need to respray them.
Induction kit - not chasing Horsepower, just want the sound.
De cat - no clue on the specifics, not in any rush.

In terms of maintenance, cooling system refresh + coolant flush; Pulley replacement.

That's it for now I think.

Interior looks very clean:thumbs: Few questions:

What's the difference between the business and professional head units?
Where did you get the OEM xenon retrofit from and what did it set you back?
Cost of OEM expantion tank? I think I should replace mine as when I'm due for my next service.

The difference is rather small. It has a bigger screen and slightly nicer to use, better sound quality too, and looks cool. Otherwise in terms of features there's very little difference.

I picked up some OEM xenon headlights for rather cheap but they need a few parts. Working complete sets can be like 3-5k.

I got my expansion tank for around R1000 and cap was 150ish. That was with a discount.

Ok so I don't need to go hunting for a headunit like yours now?

Rather spend the money upgrading the sound quality with a nice compact 4-channel amp and sub combo.. no reason to spend money upgrading to the Professional unit from Business CD, as the difference isn't really worth the price you'd pay - unless you score a luck and pick up one really cheap from a scrapped E46.

If your tail's really itching for a head unit upgrade, rather look at sourcing and retrofitting the OEM NAV head unit, or one of the aftermarket all-in-one units... just be prepared for the additional cost of the HVAC relocation kit - R1200-1500 from the dealer, dependent on the unit suitable for your car.. And to add insult to wallet injury, you have to wait 4-5 weeks for it to come from Germany, as BMW carries no local stock. :nonono:

Yea the OEM Nav retrofit is quite a nightmare, you need a lot of parts in addition to just the head unit itself and the HVAC relocation bracket.

The aftermarket options are all pretty crap. Dynavin is the closest to OEM in terms of appearance, really isn't all that great given what it costs.
