Hey all,

I noticed something disturbing in the Mini Cooper S we just bought.

WTF?!?!?! kinda half breed foam excuse for a filter is this?
shouldn't it be at least 2x as thick?

d

And on a side note - do all the cars have these 2 holes in the side of the bottom half of the box next to the ECU in the last pic?

I'm looking to upgrade to a drop in, or depending on price vs sound vs gains.
I've seen stuff on international forums about ALTA, JCW, Dinan, DDM, Madness, Cravenspeed, BMP, etc, etc..
At the moment i'm leaning toward looking at something like a JCW with foam filter, or a Dinan (OEM looking)

aren't the extreme ones like Craven, ALTA etc expensive once landed..
and very NOISY?

Who's got what and what's the feedback?

Thanks.

I had a BMC CDA kit on mine. Had direct cold air feeding from the vent on the passenger side just below the windscreen. Worked Well.

From what I've read, the JCW Airbox works the best.

Waste of money if you want performance out of Any intake on the R53, you don't feel any difference besides sound increase and slightly better throttle response .
Do this last if you after performance but if you want a louder supercharger whine get it now.
For sound I would say Alta, it screams.

If it was me I would do the pulley and header with decat first. Or if you on a budget, cut out the cats on the stock header, there's 2.

Side note : between a Jcw intake and stock intake with k&n drop in filter, I felt no difference.

Use it, don't use it.

reading this, i think i'll just get a K&N drop in filter, and open up the back end hole and the cowel for some more flow... and a lil bit more sound...
