Hi All

I am thinking of doing a full clean on the intake and would like to know were to buy liqui moly throttle body cleaner and liqui moly MAF cleaner in JHB.

Anything that I should look out for while cleaning and will these products do the job?

EDIT:
2000 M5 uses the same MAF as the S54, this is a tutorial.

Axis Engine works will most probably have. Speak to Moranor on the forum. He is an advertiser. They do all the liqui moly products.

Please do not clean the MAF.
Leave it well alone

Will take your advice Peter .... but in order for me to get to the throttles, I need to unplug the MAF wiring harness which is stuck tight at the moment. :thumbdo:

Sirhan first disconnect the battery.

Then you take some Q20 and spray inwards on the plug.
You then take a small flat screw driver.
You press the ears on either side of the plug between thumb and fore finger.
Wedge the flat screw driver against the MAF wall and the plug and slowly exert pressure against the plug making sure that the face of the screw driver is always square to the MAF plug and the MAF wall.

If not sure give me a call and I shall talk you through it.
If stuck I have a 5 pound hammer and a chisel I can let you have.

There are reported instances where DIY specialists have sprayed and cleaned the MAF and have destroyed it.
Also oil bathed air filters are not recommended as it deposit a layer of oil on the MAF and you get inaccurate readings

I am buying the spray from Sean - Axis, not because he is a forum member but because he is cheap and provides some solid non-salesmen type advice

I will only be able to get down to attempting this DIY again next weekend and will keep you guys updated.

Looking forward to it.

Keen to see how you remove the ICV. And the intake manifold to get to it.

Is the issue more prominent for DIYers, in other words, would a specialist like yourself advise against doing this ( if you were doing it)?

I cleaned my MAF sensor in my e36 M3 3.2 with brake cleaner...
works well no issues...

Just don't touch any of the sensors! and make sure its dry before you start.

I would ordinarily refrain from doing it unless specifically instructed by an owner who is built like Ram3on or similar.

just my 0,02c worth

p.s. Sash thank you for the compliment I do however consider myself as an ardent DIYer rather than a specialist......

@ Sirhan no I haven't done any of the above. Hence I'm keen to see if you can manage to reuse the ITB clips. I just can't get it over myself to buy a new set of clips. So the throttles on mine will have to stay as is for now.
