Hi guys
for a while ive been with dialdirect, insured a few older cars ive owned mostly 3rd party insurance. e.g my ex e32 730i v8 was around R85.00 a month as its book value was 23k or something. my ex e28 520i 1986 model 5'er was also thereabout, its book value was at i think R34000 or something according to them. now for the mind boggle, i sold the above cars. now i have a mint e28 528i 1985 model... same price roughly for 3rd party, but according to the its book is only R18.5k .
im baffled as to how a 1986 520i can have a book value almost double that of a 1985 528i according to mead and mcgrouther book.(as quoted by dialdirect agent)
next mindblow, i experience this with my previous e39 5 series aswell which was a 2001 525i in manual... they wanted clost to R1500 a month, 3rd party was like R142.00
my current e39, is a 530d also in manual, also a 2001 model. i got quoted today R1438.00 per month, and its book value is R83100. the book value sounds about right i guess...
3rd party is also just under R150.00 a month... i would have thought that fully comprehensive for a 13yr old car worth 83k according to the book could be had for under R500.00...
not sure what to do about my current e28 528i, in 1 yr she's 30yrs old..perhaps there is some sort of classic car insurance (dialdirect have no such thing)
id appreciate if there are folk here who can advise...
