Get the VIN - only way to check properly. Car ran out of time it seems and no mention of extending plan. Wonder why they didn't. Time on these M5s is very cheap.

I got the Vin and emailed John to see if he can check it.
Just thought maybe someone on the forum knew the car.

What troubles me is that the license disc is expired for 2 years now and the was apparently parked off for a few months and not serviced. Sounds like could be issues.

Sounds a bit suspect imo:fencelook:

@ Coisman for sure. Does seem a bit worrying, not renewing the licence on a car like a M5. M5's are really going for good prices. They are so tempting. Proceed with caution. :fencelook:

I would pass. Go for a higher mileage one still on plan or a newer car altogether if you can for a little bit more. Unfortunately as with all cars, it is being bought by people with no hope of being able to maintain them out of plan... but who can get the bank to finance them... this to me screams of that scenario. Just my 2c

I personally feel that back then you could still get away with buying a second hand M as it was more mechanical than now and could usually reach high mileages without breaking a sweat. Maintenance costs were also a lot lower.

These newer M's are tempting but I wouldn't recommend buying a "too used" second hand one. Remember the previous owner has definitely enjoyed this car properly.

6 years ago and 70 000km may seem little but is a lot for this car. You might be paying 450k to enjoy the end of the cars life. Who knows, it may go until 200 000km but is the maintenance costs worth it? Or rather is the risk of sitting with a broken M5 worth it?

Lets just say that the car had Motorplan valid till 100 000km (Lets not focus on the year) If you buy it at 70 000km, You can easily do 30 000km within 2 years, if you finance the car for a period of 5 years, for the other 3 years you going to be shitting? Or you have to pull out more money to extend your plan.

OR

After 2 years if you plan on selling and settling the bank, You will end up filling in money for your own car to go because you can't get your settlement amount.

For 450k you can get a fairly nice car or BMW for that matter, I would probably opt for a M135/235/335 which is still around the 30k-40k mileage with a valid Motorplan.

This is my personal thought of it, I would buy a second hand M if it had around 40 000km at most.

My M5 ran out of plan, I’ve had all majors done under plan, clutch, brakes, turbo manifolds etc, car has 70k on the clock, I hardly drive it, so I saved the MP extension fee and if something breaks I will sort it from my pocket , thing is, I know what I have , and that’s the difference,.... should actually do the annual oil change now that I think about it

I would take car for a once over at an agent you familiar with, and see from there, R450k isn’t a bad price , if you can stretch the budget, pick up one in plan though

Good points above

I bought mine with plenty of plan and still extended it. The positive experiences of most of the owners here could turn into a horror story buying a car with patchy history and no plan. I got more than my money's worth out just with 4 shocks. I didnt hesitate to extend again... it wont go boom after 100000km... barely even uses oil since they changed breather system. Mine is way past that and will still be on plan close to 140000 at this rate. You've seen what I've done to mine with spare cash from buying at the right time with the right support... and yes I've built up a buffer because I have plan... if you are out of plan and financing then good luck. Especially if you havent been driving it for the majority of that mileage and it has suspension or gearbox issues waiting to pounce... 1.5 to 2 years old I reckon is a good time to buy and finance for a short period with a plan to extend if required. Honestly even if its 30k it's worth it IMHO considering what stuff could potentially cost (obviously time it to coincide with brakes or inspection etc). There are literally so many M5s coming up for sale (and selling quickly) at 480-550k still in good shape that it makes zero sense to buy this one.

Am I missing something with this one??? I can understand the points of view regarding MP but from what I can figure its MP expired.... does not say anything in add about MP?

I agree with the comments that most folk buy and don't think about the maintenance costs after the fact....which can be horrendous admittedly with a vehicle of this nature...in fact any car if something large goes wrong.

My question is judging by some of the comments, whats wrong with the car? If the BMW MP can't be extended due to time, what about an after market insurance/plan/warranty for major failures? Just a thought?

Best would be do a VIN check.......
