Importance of Injector Coding

Ok so I bought a 2010 N54 135i and having done a few basic changes including a JB4 I noticed that the car had a roughish idle and had a definite flat spot when on partial throttle passing through 3000rpm.

The car only has 88000km and BMW service history didn't show injectors being replaced previously. The car was due for an ignition service and I decided to do injectors at the same time. I imported 6 series 12 injectors, plugs and Delphi Coils from the US at a fraction of the cost of parts here.

(I would share the site I bought the parts from but unfortunately as I don't have 100 posts I am unable to post on the parts for sale section and until such time as I can I am not willing to share that info anywhere else. This is a mild protest against the 100 post policy - to me it makes no sense to deprive ALL fanatics the opportunity to buy parts or cars they need or want because the Seller has less than 100 posts. If there are dodgy posters or spammers surely that is for the moderators to deal with? Just saying)

Anyway, having got all the parts we fitted the new plugs, coils and injectors. Interesting to note that we discovered the 3 rear injectors had already been replaced with series 11&12 injectors and cyl1-3 had series 7 injectors. All the injectors removed looked ok.

After the stuff was installed but before coding the injectors we ran the car and took it for a drive. So the injectors are quieter and the car was definitely running smoother BUT much to my disappointment the flat spots were still there.

I then took the car and had the ECU coding done to record each injectors mechanical performance parameters into the ECU. This was done by Gert at OBDWORX who only uses genuine BMW hardware and software and is BMW appproved. The coding basically tells the ECU the exact mechanical / electrical / power performance of each injector to allow it to more accurately control the fuelling to each cylinder.

Much to my relief, the coding has absolutely cured the flatspots and the car is now running perfectly. Idle is smooth and the car revs very smoothly.

What this tells me is that:-

- whoever replaced injectors 4-6 before didn't bother to code them
- the flat spot was coding and not the injectors themselves.
- the injectors I replaced are still working 100%
- I now have 6 injectors that I can sell once I reach the 100 post mark.

:roflol: I love sarcastic humour. Take that and put in your pipe and smoke it!

I am sure an interested party can send you a PM...

I am joking, I am sure the 100 post limit is so that they can weed out the chancers or people who create accounts just to sell things and not offer anything else to the forum. Unfortunately this is a forum for BMW lovers to share and discuss all things BMW not a market place.
As it also makes it easier to manage accounts and verify who is legit. I am a administrator on some other forums and believe some of the things happening out there are worse. 100 posts is not that much at all.
