:dropjaw: Im going to put money on it there are a few clowns on this very forum that think this type of racing is safe. :hammerhead:

Take it to the track guys if you have the balls to race, at least if you have an accident there is support there that can help save your life.

Condolences to the family's of the guys that lost their lives here.

i know this sounds incredibly cruel, but at least this time it was only the participants who died.. if you have ever seen how the spectators line that street, you will know how this could have been so so much worse..

my condolences to the family's of the deceased..

That's hectic! For the 350Z to be THAT destroyed they must have been travelling at a crazy speed and in a residential area  are they retarded?

+1 that no spectators or other people were harmed but this all could have been avoided.

This had to happen sooner or later, there are so many drags all over the place and the cops are not always there to stop it. So lucky that none of the spectators got flattened.

The positive outlook of the whole thing is that so many of the people that experienced this, will not drag again or think twice and this will make a difference in the future.

And the worst is, the Voortrekker "strip" has been open for business for years.

You could always go pick up a dice there if you wanted, even 3am on a sunday monring pissed out of your mind...

Fscking morons, seriously...

I want to say that high speed might be the reason for clash between the cars. its a very bad to say that people do not avoid from high speed while racing . I would say that it is awful .

My response from another forum:

Okay please understand i am an not condoning any of the incidents above, however a few concerns i have:

lack of facilitation of such events is a big factor to the increase in illegal drag racing I would think..
Tarlton is far and in the middle of nowhere..
Also a big focus on illegal drags - however any1 have any stats on drunk driving fatalities/ injuries vs speed related?
Track driving is an expensive sport as we all know hence it excludes the majority.

Treating a symptom without a proper diagnosis of the problem isnt any good - metros gonna run around and stop the illegal drags due to media publicity and pressure from superiors but what have they done to solve the problem?

in DBN is there anywhere to drag race legally?

As long as there are people willing to go and even watch illegal drags:cursin:, this will continue without a doubt.

The cops will be around for a month or so until things quite down and thats it, they will find somewhere else to race.

We need proper drag race facilities that not a far distance away.

Sad series of events though.

another point you can add to that is that because this incident is high profile, with lots of media coverage, the cops will be all over it, with goverment promising all kinds of action to aprehend those guilty of this kind of behaviour. while that is good and commendable, how about goverments own crimes?

how about the hundreds who have died for absolute no reason in accidents caused by the criminal state of our roads?? who is to be held responsible for that? there are now many roads that simply cannot be driven at night.

They will do it anywhere any how either which way though unfortunately. Although an independant specified area that is designated for drags with proper precautions in place will dramatically lower the risks and rate of fatalities and injuries..
The worst part about it is how everyone will say that they were The most amazing people who lived safe lives blah blah blah and yet died in an act of complete and utter stupidity!! The lack of understanding when it comes to cars and safety is ridiculous...I'm but 22 but I can easily spot an unexperienced driver, especially when they doing 100km/h+ in wet weather, visibility of maybe 50m. They Don't understand they are covering that 50m in just under 2 secs, the average reaction time being just over 1 sec leaving you less then 1 second to apply brakes.....And then its these same people that drive even worse in dry weather weaving through traffic without regard.

This incident highlights these facts and more. They have no respect for life and authority. And maybe its because of the lack of understanding..

People these days use their cars as weapons in the above circumstances and should get charged and treated like criminals..

My sinical 2c...

voortrekkers has been around since it was tarred,my father in law use to tell me of accidents there in his days,i used to do it as well(early 90s)then realized it was unsafe and started do it properly,on the track.

sorry to say but i dont feel sorry for the people that died, they knew what cars they had,uno turbo and 350z are not slow cars.if they have a licence they do know the responsibility that goes with it.spectators are just as guilty as they cheer the people on,they should be arrested and made to do community service,in a morgue or something.they will quickly change there mind about illegal street racing.

i just hope there was no body there with bmw fanatics stickers on there cars as this will give us all a bad name.

spoke to a buddy of mine that had a look at the scene today.. according to him, the 350z that hit the pole, its motor ripped out and bounced into the upholstry shop next to the scene, where a customers car locked inside deflected the engine up through the roof! crazy stuff..

The racing on voortrekker road has been going on for a very long time, and will probably go on until the day that the goverment makes everything related to cars so expensive that no one can afford them or they demolish voortrekker road.

I am guessing the metro could do something about this and street racing in general if they stop hiding in bushes or seeking bribes.
