When I was much younger and braver(stupid) I lost my e36 in a corner(went in to fast) the arse then stepped out, I counter steered and BAM it snapped back on me. I spun round once(left like more) ended up very close to a wall and stuck in some moist gravel/mud/someone's garden. (The road was a little bit wet and I might not have been completely sober).

Now that I older(more sensible, I think) and I have been to a few track days, the car obviously has spun and slid and and and, ask Vuk he was passenger at midvaal. The car moved around a lot that day.

Bottom line: you can read a much as you want, you can drift on the PS/Xbox as much as you want and one day at the BMW advance driving course is not enough "practice". You will never be able to safe your arse every time it goes wrong, even if you do everything right.

PS. all the wheel bearings on the e36 had to be replaced.

I agree 100%. We all think we the best drivers, but I've done the BMW driving training etc. When the backend gets loose it happens damn quick. The biggest thing I took away from the course is respect! Respect the power, respect the speed. Then practice, practice, practice! A ton of metal sliding (in or out of control) can cause series kuk.

Exactly! The course is not there to turn you into the stig nor is it there to teach you how to hold a slide like Ken Block, they teach you respect for a rearwheel drive car and how to react to a skid in order to correct the slide.

And yes, you can teach someone during a 1 day course how to correct a skid, my wife managed to correct all the skids she encountered but didnt do very well at the controlled slide. 2 completely different skills.

At one point we were travelling perpendicular to the direction the car was facing. So yah... you could say the car moved around a lot...
