With a hostile thread topic like that I am too afraid to even comment. Getting codes read is a good start though.

sorry but i have just had BAD luck with this car from day one!!!after i relied on a "reliable" and i use that term lightly person who bought it for me on my behalf.....and i have always loved beemers but i gotta tell ya ...i think i am starting to HATE this one!!!:thinking:

Thats when you plug in a computer to the car to read the error codes, it will give you an indication as to what is wrong, the codes can also be misleading at time, but its a start.

Where is the car stading ?

at my offices in jet park....and i understand its an E36 not E46...what is the diff?

All second hand cars will have issues (Sometimes even new cars). It's up to you if you want to stick it out with the one you have though :thumbsup:

If you still looking for help I can reccomend some-one in Menlyn area He's got dedicated BMW diag.tools; it can be anything from as simple as a fuse,relay,pump (can supply you with brand new pump for +/- R850.00)but with propper diagnostics you can address the problem and not waist money on guessing. Excuse my english, I'm afrikaans but trying

could be the chain , if the chain has broken then you wont hear the valves case the camshafts are attached via the chain wich open and close the valves.
check the plugs and see if there is spark.
dont get me wrong but check if you have petrol..

I seriously doubt you have a broken chain....When you turn the ignition can you hear the fuel pump priming?It may be easier if you have someone listening for it in the back seat.You would also need to have the codes read for faults stored on the ECU-it could be a duff sensor or an airleak

there does seem to be a problem with honesty... before i found the mech im using now i tried almost every workshop in town and eventully gave up and started fixing my 1st car myself... i figured if they just going to replace random parts i may as well guess and replace them myself and save some money...

been a bit busy, thought about emailing a couple of times, but it slipped my mind, yes I know unforgivable
