Maybe he feels you would damage the car or abuse it. In that case let him test drive the car while you in it, let him floor it here and there, stand out side and let him floor it away check for smoke bla bla bla, let him put the car through the test for you......

Dont buy if you cant test drive the car.

I was going to buy a 135i from a dealers this year, finance was approved.

Went for a test drive and engine management light came on and car went into limp mode.

Did not take the car, found out it was also a back smash

cars like these attract a lot of time wasters. The owner could get 50 people come view the car. Would you let all 50 joy ride your 135?

The difference comes in determining who are legitimate buyers. Which these days is very difficult.

the owner may not be hiding anything but protecting his car from being mishandled.

I Suggest going on a test drive where the owner drives the car, and if you happy go home think about it and call the owner back and tell him you are still serious about buying car and will take it if allowed to test drive first. A follow up call will show that you are a serious potential buyer. (just a suggestion)

Hi Guys

I now understand . He had company insurance that only had him as the driver. He added me as a driver to test drive the car :=):

Felt the steering , gears , brakes . Was too cold to push it, but that's not what I wanted to do.

Test drove from his office to the bank and did the deal

:joy:

It is a difficult situation i agree that you do NEED to test drive but i also know of quite a few guys that have had their BMW written off by a perspective buyer...

most beemers are quite quick compared to most cars and alot of people just dont know how to drive...

even if the car got written off chances are the guys got more out insurance than they would have sold the car for anyway no? :fencelook:

lol not that it is cool at all to have that happen, but everything in moderation, if the guy is genuinly interested and not just trying to joy ride then there is no reason to say no to a test drive, walk away if thats the case.

my car is worth way more than insurance would pay out... but anyway im probably never going to sell it so i wont have to deal with this

So it was a case of communication error. With all due respect, think an apology is required from all of us for judging before we knew all the facts.
:praise:

Congrats on the new ride bud

Well i have never test driven any of the cars I have purchased merely liking t and buying it and have never purchased a lemon then again the conversation usually goes like this

1) Hey bud i WANT THE CAR IT LOOKS SWEET any latent defects you aware of ? Think carefully .... I will take it to SMG for a full diagnostic tommorow and just sue you for any repairs .....did I mention i'm an attorney ? For some hither too undiscovered reason this usually makes them come clean and or reconfirm that buggerall is wrong
