Saw this 540 on Gumtree, Went to have a look and the deal was OK. Few things still to do but not to bad. Repaired the ignition and all the funny electrical gremlins gone now.

199k km, planning to do a major service. Coming from PE on Sat the box did change down very early a few times. Only when I was driving slow. Was a very hot day, not sure where to begin with that.

Will do, suggesting the best oil is in order gents, this is my 1st auto in my life!
Not sure how bad it is but all 4 wheels are 235. Must say it is braking traction very easy. Previous owner just put on Dunlops 6060, not my choice!

6060's arent great tyres at all so not suprised tbh...

I know, do not trust them at all. Might replace rims at a later stage and go for at least 265 at the back

The way the doors close and the seats are just in another world if you compare it to my 2004 330d. What can I do to get the soundtrack a bit better without making it loud or getting droning inside the car!

235 all around I think is standard for the pre-facelift 540i as yours is not the first I've seen with that fitment.

Nice bud! Check the intake hoses and pipes for leaks. Mine had several cracks that caused massive power loss.

Im on my 2nd e39, brilliant cars. have hit rock bottom and i challenge anyone to find more bang for buck bmw wise. they are seriously the most undervalued bimmers around at the moment.

and you dont know how good they are till you've owned one and lived with one for a few weeks... oh and then gotten into something else and realise...

It's so true Anton, used my wifes car to a nearby town on Sat night, I was just thinking, a two year old car and the 540 is 14. The drive is realy so smooth with about no noise.

I see a 1998 540i on gum tree with 64 000km going for R 130K
