Hi guys, I'm looking at buying an e30 bmw, 325is prices are insane! Its a classic and a bmw so its understandable. Was even thinking 333i or alpina, but its as diff as finding a virgin at a strip club! So thought y not a 325i shadowline.

How would 1 tell if its a shadowline? Any specs on what the engine numbers should start with , years of production, interior colour schemes, suspension, gearbox, diff?

Sure there's many of us out there that would appreciate some specs!

Thanks guys!

Hi speedee.
I don't know all the specs, but what I do know is that the suspension is a 3 hole. It is a 2.5 and produced 126 kw. If you go do a search on the E30ClubSA, they have a full write up on the 325is EVO1 and 2, 333i and 325i Shadowline with what the chassis nrs are and what the specs are.

Shadowlines are very hard to spot. It basicly refers to the trim and that very cool lip. Anything with 5 hole suspension is rare and probibly crap expensive. But there is really alot of info on e30club.co.za. Not to promote the other forum, its just their speciality. The IS vin iirc starts with oef and oej. But please please check the reg with coisman before you buy ANY E30 for dodgyness

I have owned two E30 325i shadowlines.

As far as I remember, they all have 2 doors cloth seats (recaro at front) with the grey chequred cloth and rear headrests fitted as standard and a boot spoiler. Not 100% sure but I recall they ride lower than a normal 325i

Make sure the exterior trim is the genuine BMW shadowline black and has not been sprayed, you can tell as the OEM is powder coated. A good tell tale is look at the radio arial/antenna, genuine shadowlines have a black one, and they are expensive and seriously hard to find.

The rest is exactly the same as the 325i and if you come across a fake it can only have been made from a very limited number of chrome bumper 2 doors that SA got (in fact I think a 316/318 only in SA?) and it would be very obvious by looking at the engine bay that all brackets have been changed.

Completely off point, but my dad bought my mom a 325iS years ago. I was just a small boy not knowing anything about the car, except that I loved it! I remember it felt as if the car was flying when my dad took my brother and me for "a spin" ahh.. The good old days.

At that stage my dad had an E32 740i. Being 4 kids, we went on holiday with the two BM's, the 3 for "the kids" and the 7 for my parents, and whoever wanted to go with them. Thus my love for BMW's. I grew up in them

Only the e21 came with real Recaro seats. All e30 sport seats were manufactured in house.
Shadowline was just cosmetically different from a normal 2dr 325i with normal 4 hole suspension albeit shorter springs.

The shadowline I had was a chrome bumper, it had cloth houndstooth sports seats, colour coded bumbers & boot spoiler, black trim around the windows & an LSD.
