discussion How to order a Ferrari...

I get why he is saying it, even though I don't buy into the conclusion. Alot of guys just buy these to say they have the best track car and the 'credentials' that it buys them (Renault RS drivers, Lotus drivers, M-drivers... LOL they all do it). Spec sheets and talk are cheap. Crash with his E46 and 10 years+ seat time will likely crush an inexperienced Turbo S or GT3 driver around our tracks. Experienced this myself at the various private track events with the 4C (and with other cars previously). No shame in attending and being slower though - you have to learn somehow. Point is you don't magically become a great track driver by owning a GT3 which is what I guess some people feel will happen to them.

The Turbo S is not exactly what I'd call an underrated car and is overrated IMHO in it's own way.

Must raise this again: Great Ferrari thread BTW :ROFLMAO:
This is a hugely important point. Seat time>>>>.

A guy who knows his car well and can get to 9.5/10 levels is going to do far better than somebody in a faster car only capable of 6 or 7/10. I know this. I'm the guy only capable of 6 or 7/10!

On the Ferrari question. TBH the high end ferrari's are so far beyond my comprehension that they bare no real meaning to my life. I will never be able to afford (say) an 812. Even if they halved in price. Even if they quartered in price. The maintaining is simply another level on stuff like that, let alone the cost of entry.

So then it becomes a pure rich persons game, cool and all for the carfluencers and the guys who have R100m+ levels of wealth but tbh most of the ferrari range is already in the koenigsegg/pagani/bugatti level. The difference between a R10m car and a R20m car is nothing really, you're operating at a level of rarified wealth that I will never access (TBH even if I had R100m, I doubt I'd spend R10m on a single car anyway!).

What Ferrari's do I (as a late 80s kid) like? 456 would be first on my list. They had a manual one down here for sale for R1m a while ago. The best looking ferrari standard production car of my lifetime (maybe ever?), usable, manual, V12 noise. Sure it'll probably get dropped by a golf R from a robot. And probably around any corners too. But it'll top 280km/h, it'll sound amazing and it's vaguely attainable in some universe. After that it's 355, then 550, then 360. In that order.

Of the newer stuff it's hard to care, personally. SF90s are R10m for a standard production Ferrari. They will literally make as many of these cars as they can sell (maybe more). The other stuff? A V6 turbo hybrid thing? That silly absurd SUV nonsense? The roma is gorgeous but it's essentially a portofino. which is essentially a california. The underlying architecture of the thing is from the mid-00s!!! For R5m levels? You're paying an awful lot to have a Ferrari badge there. R5m buys you a very well spec'd GT3.

R10m buys you a limited run 911 product.

That's not even considering the mclarens (probably a bigger saving still 2nd hand) or even just the range of cars you could own for R5-10m? That's a certified elite level BMW M collection there.

I always feel short changed by this because no matter what I've done in life it feels like these 'real' cars elude me and I must just 'accept' that R2M or 3M or 4M is nothing... I guess some things are not meant for us in this life. It has become this way though: At some point Gallardos and 430s were not 'that far' away. The entry levels of all these brands are now way beyond any 'normal' person's ability to buy new (and I mean even if you have that money staring you in your bank account/portfolios etc you aren't going to be able to spend it all on this one car)

The only old ferraris I would bother with are manuals. Their F1 gearboxes are disappointing, problematic and expensive to keep going. Unfortunately every time I start looking at one of these older cars they tend to start magically increasing in value. An example is the 348ts which was unloved for quite some time. I was almost ready to buy one at around 1.2M last year... and it was at Ferrari as well. That car went quite quickly and next thing you knew the nice ones were at R2M which is just not 'appetising' vs other things you can get (even from Ferrari) around that.

McLaren is great value but YMMV with reliability and support (From HQ, Daytona themselves are great)

Reliability, ease of maintaining. Guys have watched tavarish etc and just don't realise how much more difficult (and expensive) running a big V12 italian super car vs (say) a 911 is. It's night and day.

Porsche produce more cars in a year than Ferrari has *ever*. Sure plenty of those are macans and cayennes, but think of all the shared electronics - how much cost saving there is there.
This x1000

Youtubers have created this illusion of accessibility (and a whole host of dumb tropes that are parroted these days) when it is generally a VERY VERY bad idea to buy one of these things, especially in less than perfect condition. I think without that luxury of having a full factory warranty and not having to save 100K each year to buy a power warranty, you think very long and very hard about parting with your money... of course a different story if you're at those levels where money really means nothing.

The average person doesn't have millions of dollars in sponsorships plus youtube revenue (and patreons and whatever begging bowl is available to them these days) to take on these projects...

Interesting take from a UK Porsche enthusiast trying to order a new GT3 RS.

I am in the little league in Porsche ownership (i.e. not in the GTx league), so not close to the Illuminati shenanigans of ordering limited supply cars.

I wonder how Fouche motors and the like manage to get such cars if Porsche have such tough controls on supply.

I guess it's like everything in life (Ferraris or Porsches or Lambos.... or whatever really)...

"ooh look at how much money he made on that car" (and these are the few cars where you GENUINELY could make money)... meanwhile on the back end you don't see what it cost to get there :ROFLMAO:

"He won the jackpot" meanwhile he may not have even made up his lifetime losses with that win...

Takes the shine off alot of these things.

As for Fouche, there are various different reasons - I am sure most of those cars actually don't really move - glorified parking spot - and hence the current owner is never 'yet' blacklisted by Ferrari or Porsche. At the prices they are asking for some of them (eg +R7M for a Pista Spider) they are likely to be "OK" with burning their bridges for the payday... especially if old age is approaching or they feel their Ferrari/Porsche days are over in terms of wanting to be on the list. Speculating here.

BMW sales people were fired for ordering (and using up individual slots for cars) for these 'usual suspect' dealers. They were doing it by using existing customer profiles without the customers knowing. Could happen elsewhere too. You may never know that this was even done on your profile.

@Neven (who may or may not want to also share some information) and I were debating the colour this weekend @Nick . I am all for crazy colours. Lambos almost NEED to be green (or purple/yellow/orange) for me :ROFLMAO:.

Porsche in Guard's Red or Lava Orange would do it. There was a lovely Purple GT3 (not for sale though - probably waiting for a customer to pick it up... though it was there for weeks)
Ferraris in Red/Yellow/White/Blue (who am I kidding... pretty much anything)

I feel like greys/silvers are for guys who care about resale value or somehow think they are not standing out if the car is painted in a muted tone :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:.

eg: Yes look at how low key I am guys: I may as well be in a Yaris

I suppose my monkey brain would rather have a more chilled shade of paint as to not take away from the other features of the car, all the vents, the MAHHOOOSIVE brakes and calipers ect - was kinda like that day we came to your place, i was more interested in the pipes behind the 4c's rear bumper... bright colors are for LGBTQ+ flags and Lambo's lol.

Even if I had the money, it just feels too exotic to be driven on most SA roads. Same can be said of Lamborghini sports cars too.

Saw this beaut on Friday. Would imagine it’s ideal to drive late in the evening or early morning when the rest of us are sleeping.

I can weigh in here (somewhat)

I imported no problems last year, from an independent dealer in the USA.

No waiting list or previous Ferrari ownership history required.

Hey, at least my post is Ferrari / Thread related LOL
But did you get the spec you wanted? And did you own a 250 GTO prior to purchase? :ROFLMAO:

I said his, not his fathers....you stay in your corner please....

And yes just for clarity.....I am peanut butter and jealous.

I'm still trying to figure out how can an e46 csl be same pricr as an F430.
