Yeah some mechanics take zero initiative, personally I would by some cheap oil, 2liters of diesel, drain the current oil add new cheap oil + 1l of diesel, run the engine till warm, drain overnight and repeat again. Then put in some decent quality oil and check the colour in a few 100km

Yip tried that the last time and worked well. Thanks for that

I have decided on swapping out the motor to the 4.3 version. As there were bad vibrations from the flywheel when I first got it and since there are broken bolts holding the sump in I think getting a new motor is my best option. A complete setup comes with 5 wires to connect. It include ecu reprogrammed to run manual gearbox. Wired fuse box. Intake pipe. Airbox. And all wiring. My headers. Flywheel. Adaptor plate clutch will all fit. As in the same series of engines. Might upgrade to the 325i or 330i gearbox while it’s out as I doubt this 120i box is gonna last long lol

Hi guys some updates from the weekend

Drivers side seat done in 6 hours. Thanks to my angle grinder, basically cut up the electric seat frame which saved a ton of time and since I did the other side seat this went quick

Here are both seats installed they are amazing was definitely worth the effort.

Sorry for the bad quality pic but I plan on pulling the cradle so the car is just sitting in the garage.

Next was to sort out the shifting. I couldn’t use 2nd gear as it was hitting on the prop guibo aka prop donut. On some conversions they need to cut the linkages and shifter related parts. On my car it has a upgraded propshaft and bigger propshaft donut. Which is kinda cool. But the center bearing is damaged

In the below pics you can see how 2nd is touching the guibo

Luckily for me all I had to do was to swap the linkage around. Which sorted out this issue as the linkage used had a bend on it I now have about 7mm gap when in 2nd gear between the guibo and the shifter rod

Took some pics of the broken bolts on my sump which is causing the leak but I think there is another leak higher up too

Front side of the sump

I also snapped some pics of what the headers look like and OMG

c712aeebf328a8a6cbc89eaadc8dc6e9.jpg

Will get these sorted out at a later stage.

As mentioned above I want to remove the cradle. This is because there is no space for me to put the fans behind the radiator as the current setup is sitting in front of the radiator and this is not the most efficient way as the areas where the fan motors are get no cooling, hence why I want to move them to the back of the radiator.

I am looking for a 6 cylinder cradle and this will then sort out my issue as there is extra engine bay space. Look at the curvature of the top of the cradle compared to mine

Was this motor originally fitted by Oom frikkie on the plaas? Those headers are something out of a horror movie.

Lol. I think this conversation was done in Eastern Cape.

The stock manifolds are bad enough cant imagine how bad the flow is.

This car still has these manifolds

Hi guys. Quick update

Decided to investigate where the oil leak from uptop was coming from.

I removed the intake manifold. As I was test fitting the modified one.

And I found the issue. The valve cover was not tightened. Guy that did this conversation honestly must have been a joke. Look toward the rear of the motor on the valve cover. Bad bad bad oil leak

Valve cover was so flippen greasy. Gasket was a mixture of rubber and silicone lol

I also removed the plugs which were black. I would have taken a pic. I will try replace them this weekend as I have bought new ones

Eventually I want to go wasted spark with dictator. With some nice cams

This was the modded intake I will be using I need to cutoff the side part, still a work in progress should be a good upgrade. Hood closes no with issues. I also added a 75mm throttle body. The egr has also been removed

Hi guys sorry for no updates finally got a chance to work on the 1er.

Plan is to do a service and compression test on all cylinders

I have only done the one side as it’s a 90 degree v8 and getting to the plugs in the rear is such a pain in the ass.

What also took some time was preparing the valve cover and remove all the old gasket sealer from the valve cover and head. Everything is now nice and tight. gasket sealer applied in the right places so hopefully no more leaks.

I am also removing the propshaft as the center bearing needs to be replaced. But the asshole exhaust is making my life difficult af

So that’s the update...

I am busy looking at a new solution so might use an e90 radiator with custom ally side tanks. I am also planing on moving the radiator further forward and putting the fans behind the radiator for better cooling as it should be more efficient

I also decided on giving the engine bay a lil clean. Need to do the whole engine but it looks 1000x better in person

There were only 6 of the 12 bolts inplace for the engine covers which has since been replaced with shiney gold ones

Great work so far bud! Seems like there is still plenty to sort out but you are getting there slowly but surely. The engine bay looks much better after it being cleaned!

Hi guys been busy lately and can’t get this damn car finished. Found more shitty workmanship. From the previous owner and from the guy I took it too. But I am gonna do it and I will do it right !

So this is the new upgraded sump it’s a 3uz mid sump with a recess on the pan and just clears the e87 subframe. And the biggest issue with my custom sump is that the build quality is crappy, it leaks, takes a lot of oil and there is no splash plate so oil is jumping everywhere and oil starvage happens due the poor design.

Got the sump modded removed the oil level sensor and put in a plate to reduce oil jumping lol over the place.

Paid for the power steering lines to be fixed but they still leak aka half job. The guy said he fixed the leak but I actually found issues with the pipes check the amazing of joins

Previous post was during the week.

The below is from today. I have dropped off my power steering lines to be fixed up. Should get them back this week.
Due to all the oil leaks. I decided I need to kinda sort it out before the new sump goes in. This is what I am working with. It’s like thick cake due to the sump ps leak and valve cover leaks

After

Still need to do a lot of work on the grime stuck everywhere.

Also found that the pin that holds in my steering rack was never tightened from the guy that put in my m3 steering rack.
I also found why my sump was leaking. They never removed the old gasket sealer properly and just put new one on top. Also the way they applied gasket maker was not done correctly. And they didn’t put in all the bolts. The old sump easily weighs 3 times the oem sump. And it’s a kak design.
Check how badly the gasket maker was applied
