I have a buyer lined up for the motor tomorrow. Then I will be buying the new motor end of the month. The the wiring and ecu is going with the motor.

Hi peeps. Surprising but the forum has been quiet. So unfortunately I can’t work on my car as it is at my parents place .... but...

I am working on something big and it’s not forced induction

Payday is coming up that’s all I got to say. Stay tuned, heathy and safe !

So a bit of a fail.

I was going to buy this a non runner E81 and made a deal with the seller which he would keep for me for a few days which he was happy with. Later that night o see he starts posting stuff off the car and I contact him and he is well it happened eish.

So anyway the plan was to get an E81 and swop over my e87 parts. But it seems it was not meant to be

This is how I would receive the car which excluded the motor but the front end was complete and would mine.

As you can see the wiring looks like it will now have issues and who knows what other pieces went missing

Told the guy no thanks

That is disappointing to hear.

The next question would be: was he even the seller?

I had a similar shitty experience 3 months ago. Made contact with someone on Facebook selling an accident damaged Astra. Rent a trailer and drive to Westonaria to go collect.

The guy we meet first just looks after the cars in the yard. After telling him we want to speak to the owner, he phones someone who would be there in 7mins. 45mins later he’s a no show. It turns out this person was only the owner of the scrapyard (still not the cars owner).

Then we get a call from person no3. This turns out to be the guy who posted the ad on Facebook. Knows little about the car and can’t be there in person and can’t negotiate a deal.

So we throw in the towel and prepare to leave. Next thing person no4 calls us. He is the owner of the car (who is the cousin of the Facebook guy, and the Facebook guy is the brother of the scrapyard owner). Complicated much?

Oh and he could also only come there the next week. This is despite confirming multiple times (with the Facebook guy) that it was fine to come on that day.

Half a day, half a tank of fuel and a trailer rental wasted. Never mind the fact that the car was a POS, stood open for years, last licensed 2012 (accident was in 2017), rats had eaten the wiring so it wouldn’t start etc)

Got to try be careful with who you deal with these days...

Sorry for the thread derailment. Rant over.

Keep what you have and build it nicely

Lol I feel your pain. I have decided for now going continue and will buy a running e81 at a later stage and swap over my parts

Haha thanks man. I highly doubt I will ever get a 6 cylinder again.

Not yet 100% on the motor. Been looking at a few options but don’t think it’s going to be a BMW. Probably something Toyota

Options I have been looking at

3uz
3uz ITB
3uz Supercharged
1uz Turbo
1uz Supercharged
1GZ
1GZ ITB
1GZ supercharged

If I do go Forced Induction it’s obviously going to start Natural Aspirated for now

For now just wanna sort out the other issues and look at the motor at the end

1uz - Toyota v8. 4l - 180kg
3uz - Toyota v8. 4.3l - 180kg
1gz - Toyota v12. 5l - 265kg
2jz - 230kg

Hi peeps so got a few minor updates

*I have dropped a few items off at the fabricator
*flywheel has been sent in to shave off some weight
*clutch is being converted to a button clutch with a stronger diaphragm
*starter and alternator have been removed and sent in to be serviced
*I have decided to keep the exterior stock for the sleeper look, Nino gave me that idea and I am glad he did the e82 msport bumper didn’t seem right to be on a e87. The only items that will not be stock is a slightly modified front bumper. Rear wiper delete. Short stereo aerial. Boot spoiler. Window tint. Tail piece and the 18” wheels. I am still thinking if I should upgrade the taillights to the lci versions but I am still deciding

So I have acquired a stock bumper which is in fantastic condition. Not the right colour but I am happy. I could have sold my other one but decided a swap is better less hassles and headaches

4d443b180b53492733c4dea2073d77d0.jpg

I also came across a really good deal on a turbo

I am well aware of the condition and size and how I am going to get lag, etc etc

Well it’s a Holset HX55w it’s flippen massive so a few guys have run the 50’s and 55’s on the Lexus v8 and they performed well. I am planning on getting this one setup as a hybrid and using a different housing to lower the a/r ratio as this one is about 1.9 a/r.

Bet that’s an iPhone 7 in the pics

For now just collecting parts for the Turbo build if I come across them. I want to get my car running again setup 100% enjoy it for a bit and then start the turbo build on a separate motor

Hi peeps so the turbo I got was busted but I was able to swap it out for this one with a cash difference. It has custom fit 16cm twin scroll turbine housing about 0.82 AR and the compressor is similar size to the one I had. I am collecting it soon

I also got my flywheel lightened and my clutch converted to a button clutch

The flywheel went from 14k to 8kg. I believe 14kg is more for bakkie LS and they usually put 10kg flywheels on cars. So it should be a lot more responsive

I decided to get the clutch modified and get a stronger pressure plate. Not sure where the pressure plate comes from but it looks and feels strong

Edenvale Brake and Clutch did this for me and including balancing they charged me 5k. Awesome service. Harry from their recons it’s good for 450Hp how many NM he couldn’t say

If I went with a new bigger flywheel that would have been a lot more

5k for the clutch kit
8k for the flywheel
4K for the adapter plate
Balancing ?

And that is if it would be able to hold as the gearbox of the 320d 6 speed is only rated to 350nm. Obviously it can handle more but how much I don’t know.

I thought it would be a waste if at a later stage I would need to change the gearbox. So gonna wait till it breaks lol

More to come soon

Nice updates, more puzzle pieces finding their way home now.

Is there space for that big ass turbo?

Or is there gonna be a “Leroy” 120d lurking in a few months time?

Haha no man def wanna turbo this one. Just want to get it running reliably on NA then I will do the turbo build. I am really worried as I suspect it’s going to break Bmw parts from around 0.8 bar due to the torque

I got the starter and alternator serviced so I know it won’t have any issues as they were also gunked up

Mike the auto electrician and quite some work to do. Luckily he is very reasonable

Pm me for his contact details if you interested he had to buy a new rectifier and regulator for my alternator and also service them and he charged me R1650 which is really cheap I can and he collected and dropped them off

Hey man how’s it going. Thanks for checking in. Been doing some good progress I decided to pull the motor apart and install the low comp pistons. Will post some updates in the next few days but let me leave you with this I was planning on selling my turbo so I decided to open it and get the specs and to my surprise it had a billet wheel. Specs of the wheel seems to be about 67mm/99mm

My god that motor is going to be a monster. On stock internals a turbo 1UZ makes 450ish horses before the rods break, you can turn this beast up a bunch more than that. It's going to be unruly at least.
