How much would you pay?

I saw an interesting advert on Facebook last night.*
Low mileage imported s14b20 engines....
For those who dont know, these are the same engines used in e30 M3's, but with a lower displacement.
These were sold in the Portuguese and Italian markets in the form of a 320iS, due to those markets not getting the m3.

So being the e30 fan that I am, I asked about the price.... R180k:skit:

I dont know why I'm posting this, but feel free to express your thoughts.

*I'm not posting the ad because I'm not connected to the seller and don't want to advertise without permission.

Is it the complete car? Or just the motor? Complete car is worth I reckon about R100-130k tops

Yeah but this isn’t really a IS as we know it - it’s just a 320 in a coupe body

Just the motor.
With only about 3700 320iS' ever made, I would think that they go for more than R130...

R180k for just the engine? Are you insane? Pretty sure that’s nearly the price of a E46 M3 motor from BMW

Just the motor - I would pay R40k

Haha guys.
I'm not suggesting that the engine is worth that price :innocent:

Personally I would say a low mileage s14 is worth R50k

personally I wouldn't spend a cent on a 4cylinder 2.0L engine! Not unless it was turbocharged and even then I don't like them cause they make fart sounds like GTI's and polo GTI's etc.

180k can get you something really nice, that being an entire car not just an engine that's old and slow and sounds rubbish cause its a 4cylinder 2.0L

This engine puts out about 140kw and over 200nm, and does 0-100 in 7.5 seconds. Not much for today's performance standards, but it's no donkey.

Plus a lot of this engine is about the novelty. It is, after all, the same engine as an e30 m3.

I cant comment on the sound, but I'm sure YouTube can give us an idea.

so basically its less power than an old e36 325i.....:fencelook:

I guess if your doing it for the novelty then cool, but its not going to be enjoyable to drive. More bragging rights than anything else.

More Show then Go... can get a E36 328i motor for 15K :smilebounce: There's no replacement for displacement lol..

Keep in mind also that this engine is much lighter than any 6 pot.
I agree with what you, but it's not really about power is it?
An m30 from a 333i is still special, even if it barely matches an m52b28.

I concur with Osiris, its cool, but not necessarily the best performance engine.

You can buy a E36 3.2lt M3 motor and gearbox and have it fitted to your E30 and it will be awesome

Or buy a scrapped E46 M3 complete and use the engine and gearbox and whatever else you can grab from it and build a very special E30...

E30’s are fetching good money these days - if you have something special Guys would pay for it...

If I had the cash I would build a V10 E30 run straight pipes and have it sounding like a F1 car - now that’s a special car!

Thats true. s54 e30 would be incredible:cartel:

There's still some merit to the uniqueness of an s14 e30 in South Africa.

I personally wouldn't put an s14 in unless the price was right and it was the 2.3l or 2.5l version.

Well the E36 motors are not expensive so a 228kw 3.2 in a body that light would make for an entertaining drive
