discussion Home Assistant - BMW Connected Drive Integration

Hi,

So I was tinkering with my Home Assistant instance recently and noticed that there is a BMW Connected Drive integration available.

I unfortunately don't own a 'fresh' enough car to benefit from this but perhaps there are other homelab enthusiasts who could check it out.

The integration seems to be quite comprehensive, especially if you're running a PH(EV).

There are many controls and sensors exposed which could be added to ones home dashboard.

Maybe I should buy a newer BM just so I can use this integration

For the M5 it is just the range, fuel tank capacity, state of charge of the battery, security and a few other things - basically whatever is on the app. I just added it and played with it for a few mins before forgetting it existed :ROFLMAO: I am sure it would be more useful for a PHEV but even then, the app is probably what works best anyway.

Okay interesting. So no worthwhile automations for you to build with those sensors & controls?

I have a centrally located always-on tablet displaying my dashboard - so I'd probably add some basic controls and sensor stats there just for the hell of it. Would save one from opening the BMW app every time.

I'd probably also make basic automations to close windows and arm the car when going to bed for instance.

But yes, my main thought was that should one own a PH(EV) AND own a proper solar system, then one could craft rather intricate automations for charging at the most optimal times/conditions.
