Hi guys,

I certainly hope you all had a great X-Mas over the weekend. Unfortunately, mine didn't end so very well.
On Sunday, on my way back from a gig where I was deejaying, I drop off my cousin in Bryanston at about 3am...and head back home to Midrand. While on Bryanston Drive, I take the last curve (towards Bentley / William Nicol), was doing about 70-80 Km/h.... the front goes passed, but the left rear wheel knocks the pavement and drain and the car spins (270 degree turn) to the other side of the road.... landing in-between two trees. Thankfully, no damage to the body as I slammed the breaks as soon as I lost complete traction!

No other cars where there, but left suspension is gone, oil sump is bust (hopefully no the oil pump).... Only got home at 6:30 am...

So yeah, mine didn't end so good. Will post the pics shortly.

Please give me your thoughts about costs of fixing suspension, oil sump, etc.

sucks man

"slammed the breaks as soon as I lost complete traction!"
in most cases this will make things worse because you will lose what little traction you have, in this case as you hit the curb it would have made no difference anyway because once you touch it you just going where the car wants anyway...

glad you ok...

@moranor.... I know what you mean, but Bryanston has way too many trees... I could've tried to counter steer it but i was afraid of going for the wall on the left and possibly rolling due to weight distribution....

In my mind, slamming the breaks would stop the car sooner than anything else... I was quite relieved afterward. So yeah, its not always a good idea to hit the breaks like that.

curbs are nasty i dont think most people realize how little control you have if you hit them.
there was probably nothing you could have done to make it any better...

got any quotes yet?

You're so right @moranor, it's quite silly how curbs can mess up your control over a car...

Still getting the quotes, will give you an update once I have'em.

i hit a curb once when i 1st started driving...

the car went threw quite a large tree, up a bank then flipped (not rolled) into the road again. i still cant get over how lucky i was that no one was hurt
i think what happened is the snapping the tree took all the force out of the accident and saved us...
needles to say i learnt alot from it

I had a simular situation, but mine was all my fault, to much right foot in a wet corner. LOL

Anyways, damaged both right rims and bent the right control arm and broke the control arm bush, all in all cost me R7 000 to fix. had to replace the control arm as it was not fixable.

Hi guys,

So after fighting with the insurance.... they want to write-off my car. Their final assessed quote amounts to a whopping R70 500 (and some change). WTF??????:censored:

The car's market value is sitting at R60k..but looking at the quote, they have quite a lot of misleading prices... e.g. Left Rear Tyre at a whopping R3000.... Are they serious?? For a 225/45 tyre.... That's crazy!!!

I have a good mind of keeping the car, because I will loose out if they write it off!! So, I'm working out the pros and cons of keeping it or letting it go!!! I'm sure I can cut the costs to over half their quote, my Dad owns a KWIKFIT franchise and he's willing to help me fix the suspension stuff. Plus, there is a mechanic there so sort additional stuff!!

What do you Fanatics think?
