Hi everyone

Im considering buying a friends 2007 e90 325, only problem is the mileage. It's currently on 290xxx, and although it has full service history, I'm a bit concerned
Of major mechanical problems that high mileage engines have.
I heard from many that these motors are bulletproof, so should I be worried?
By the way, the price is R100 000....

Any advice for a noob

Hi there. Yes, the 6 cylinders are reliable, but 300k mileage is very high. Spares also pricey, should repairs be needed. I think, just my personal opinion, is to steer clear of purchasing from a friend. If you run into problems with car, what do you do? At least if you purchase from a dealer you can add on a warranty and have some recourse if things go wrong. There's plenty of 3series for sale, do some homework, might be surprised what you'll be able to find.........

+100

almost 1000km a week... wow!!

there is a 2010 330i Msport with 101000km on the clock available from a dealer for 170k, so I reckon to even consider this car it would have to be closer to R75k

I have some advice for you... buy my 2007 330i M-Sport ;). It has less than half the mileage. And is a demon compared to a 325i.

But having said that dude these engines and gearboxes if looked after last forever. And when I say looked after I mean dont miss a service. These engines dont require extra tlc like the //M's etc. I've spoken to guys that have even thrown the "500 000km" mark around. So as you say yes, they are bulletproof. I havent had a single issue with mine other than replace water pump and thermostat which is very common around the 100 000km mark, which i suspect he has done as well.

i can vouch for the 325i motors.....my 2002 325ci is currently on 250k and basically motor is fine, everything around the motor will tend to break...to date, have replaced sensors, pulleys, crank case kist ( hosing)....parts arent that cheap but have had the car for 10 years now...and still awesome. if the car was looked after and serviced when it had to be then you would be okay if you buying it for the right price

I have an E90 323i which has the same N52 engine as the 325i.

You cant go wrong with this car. If its serviced on time it will last you forever.

The weak points on the e90's are the diff and water pump, the water pump being the most expensive repair of the two.

Servicing is not expense at all.

However the price he is asking for is to high.

Trade value would be around the R60 000 mark or less with that mileage.

thanks for the heads up:=):

does the 330i have the same motor than the 325i (with different ecu etc)?
also, whats your fuel consumption like?

just how expensive is the water pump replacement

I was looking for the water pump today they was no stock but its R4200 after market around R2500 this is the second time changing it and my 325 2007 its on 476345km on the clock i bought i in 2008 on 107xxxkm since that I only change
1 Crank pulley
2 All belt pulleys and rollers
3 Expansion bottle
And i service the car my self with proper oil & filter from BMW and the rest i buy from GW so if the car has FSH dont worry about Mileage but the price must go down.
I can scan it for you to see if they is no other issues

Hey bud,

Fuel consumption on my 330i is around 10.2. My mates 125i is sitting on 10.9.

So I think it depends how you drive it... pretty much the same give or take the heavyness of ones foot.

The 325i would be down on power so you will probably find yourself pushing it harder than you would the 330i.

I have PM'd you with more details bud.

Coming from a e90 325 also an 07 i will tell you not to.

Spend abit more and get the 330i. Almost same consumption if not lighter on the highway.

If the 325 is Auto, even more reason to stay away. Very lazy.

Xeqtr car is pefect:thumbs: look into it.
