Hiccup? 18inch but what size Tyre ?

ok gents. i just bought myself a set 18inch mags :joy: but the tyres at the back rubs when i load the car or gets thru a dip thats a bit too deep.:yuck:

Size i got first was at the front and back 225/40. but the wheels at the back are wides so the tyres look to small and there was some space between the lip and tyre.

then i go for a wider tyre 265/35 and now its rubs when i speed a lil bit and when i go sideways to deep dips.

what size do you guys recommend.?

The wheels are wides at the back and are 18 x 9.5 offset is 38.

here are some pics.

Judging by the pics, it appears that your problem is not the tyres but the offset on the mags which does not appear to be for an E46 rear.

Your best option would be to have your fenders rolled, but not sure it that would completely solve the problem.

then i have a big problem.

you right the offset isn't correct. because although i roll the fender the bumper will still rubs against the wheels. :argh:

now what do i do. daammit.:argh:

Yep, that offset is the problem - would work quite well on an E90 though!

is it narrow wides?

if so try and get the narrows that you have on the front, same size all around.

225/40

I'm not a fan of narrows and wides because you can't swop the front and back rims....

255 / 35 profile is to high...

i have the same profile on my back rims and it rubs....

previously i had a 30 profile and had now clearance issues, even with load in the car...

i reackon that's the maximum you could go...also...this was on a ci...i think the 4 door chassis is slightly narrower by a few mm

Gizmo.wp is this with the same offset i have.? offset 38 on a 18 x 9.5.?

Now guys isn't there a way  to machine cut the wheel at the back from 9.5j to 9.0 j.?

Can the mags guys arrange something like this.?

if the rim guys can widen wheels, i am sure they can make it narrow. they will most probably take metal off the inside lip.

Okay :flyfun: so the wheels need to go. Pity cause i like them a lot.

just talk to the mags guys to ask if i take .5 of the 9.5J if it will help. according to him its not wort it and unsafe.

so the mags are up for sale.

thanks guys for your input.

255.35 is the correct size and profile for a 18x9.5
You just need the correct offset

I ran this setup on my e46, lowered and no fender rolling.
Absolutely no touching in full load... With et45.

Oh yeh gizmo... I dnt think you have 18s, so 255.35 in your diameter is not the same.. Just fyi.

Thanks Revo.

I put up the rims for sale. I didn't know the offset of the E46. so in future will check before i buy some mags again.

if i can swop for a set with a offset of 45 i will go for it.

Thanks again.
