255.35 is the correct size and profile for a 18x9.5
You just need the correct offset

I ran this setup on my e46, lowered and no fender rolling.
Absolutely no touching in full load... With et45.

Thanks Revo.

I put up the rims for sale. I didn't know the offset of the E46. so in future will check before i buy some mags again.

if i can swop for a set with a offset of 45 i will go for it.

Thanks again.

No Problem... I hate that shops sell wheels to customers that don't fit without issues.
They should know better, unless a customer insisted on the wrong offset.

Good luck buddy

So in other words... As we said, Offset is wrong
:biglol:

I like your last solution though

I used to have 245/35/18 on the rear of my Ci on an E46 M3 mag. The offset was Et26 and I had no issues. I changed the size to 255/35/18 and now it touches the fender. I have decide too find a set of rims with an offset of 40.

Anyway, there is a guy in Durbanville who has a brand new set of Pirelli's(as advertised) for R4000, size is 245/35/18. The E46 did not come out with 255's in the rear so the 245 might work.

You gave a statement - I tried to give a description/explanation and some possible solution to the dude. Because I went through this same problem more than once.

Not everybody is a mechanical wizz-kid superhero like you dude. Some of us mere mortals need a bit more. If you don't like my posts, lump them - there is an "ignore" function on this BB, use it.

Say what!?
Think u need a chill pill... Dude... Since you can't take a joke.

You should try returning your mags to Company you bought it from , they such A holes for putting such rims that don't fit right atleast go back and try getting the front narrow rims for the back from them . That should be the easiest solution .

There is a lot of useful info if you want spend a little time here.

http://www.summitracing.com/search/...es/Section/Tires/Part-Type/Tires/?Ns=Rank|Asc

You can see what the exact tire spec is, like thread width, OD (Out side Diameter), recommended wheel width, etc. etc.

You can also compare different tyres. You can then typically go to the actual manufacturer of the tire website to get more info.

A nice article on offsets is (many others)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_(wheel)

Look hard enough and thee will find, this is of course only if you don't know everything already, then this won't apply to you.

IMHO you may be able to FIX your problem, without selling your current mags and buying new ones. But that is only IMHO.

PS: I have found that many (some) people don't know "exactly" how "tyre profiles" work.

This is the problem. THE FIX :thumbdo:

i already tried machine cut it from 9.5j to 9j. Mags guys dont wanna do it, too risky in their eyes. :flyfun:

I even consider widen the rear fenders but dont want it too look stupid, but still consider this option just need some feed back from a panelbeater.

with the wider wheels at the rear the car feels so damn good around bends, but scratch the rear tyres.

didnt you just buy these?? take them back, simple

lol at cutting the wheels.

a viable solution is to machine the hub (wheel manufactures do not have 10's of different molds of the same wheel for different applications, they manufacture generic "blanks" and then machine the offsets and pcd's), and take like 2-5mm off it, an ET40-43 with correct tires will fit perfectly on e46.

that being said, and this is my opinion obviously, but those rims are quite ugly, and there are loads of other wheels out that that are the correct specs for your car.

There are hundreds of guys worldwide that run modified mag wheels on their race cars, without a problem. So this story of "too risky" is just not true IMHO and just a cop-out, with some caveats, it has to done professionally, otherwise it will be "too risky".

a catastrophic wheel failure on a racetrack involves losing the race.
the same failure on a street results in a head on collision + death.

race car wheels like this are also 3 piece systems, with the barrels being made out of spun aluminium, unlike normal wheels like this which are single piece cast items which will not enjoy be cut while still maintaining 100% integrity

Personally I think this is way too much trouble to go through for those wheels! Their offset is the problem, and the place that fitted them should have known this and advised you. So to that end I'd rather have the OEM wheels than wheels that stick out as mush as this. Modifying regardless of the risks, is just not worth the effort IMHO!

If the wheels are in perfect condition as in as good as new then really can't see why they can't be returned or swapped for correct offset wheels. Some months ago I went to TWT to have a new pair of Continental RFT's fitted, paid and off I went. A month or so later while washing the car I noticed that the tyres were V speed rating and not the higher specified W rating that my car needs. I was expecting all kinds of excuses from TWT when I phoned to enquire about this - no problem, told me to come in and they'll swap them for the correct W rated tyres at no charge. They could have argued that I should have spotted it before driving off and even when paying. But then again, generally they want you to sit and sip cheap coffee while your car is being attended to so you are not going to notice this until later - instead I was watching them like a hawk so that they don't scratch my wheels like they did before. So my attention was on how they treated the wheels and not so much making sure that they were fitting the correct tyres - I had specified the correct tyres when phoning to order etc.

Basically I had bought just of R4k worth of tyres that were not correct, drove with them for a month or so before realising, then they swapped them without any fuss and at no charge with the correct and presumably slightly more expensive correct speed rated tyres.

Just my 2 cents - and for what it's worth, for the E46 I'd say maybe look at some E90 wheels. They look awesome on the E46 and there are so many available now and again on gumtree - agents also have some of the styles for quite reasonable prices actually!!!

Okay thanks a lot Guys. :ty:

i've done a lot of surfing and reading about offsets, Fender Rolling etc etc today.

So basically i think i am going to keep the OEM looks with correct offsets.

So maybe i am lucky and can swop for a set E90 M sport wheels.
