Hi guys. Thought I'd just let you guys know that it seems they are trying to jack cars on the R55 offramp jumping off the N14. Tried me last night but I was fortunate to get away, thanx to my wife and her high pitch screams.

Thanks guys, we okay. I pulled off like a rocket when i heard the window clap. It seems like you can't do anything fast enough when it happens though. Wish the country would start making a plan with all these crimes. Now they waste their time tolling freeways and pulling over people looking for bribes.

:sorry:
Glad you and your wife are okay. My mom uses that road quite often, I will warn her.

The criminals are running the show now, we have nowhere to go and nowhere to hide. Being robbed by thieves and the government... Sh!t is crazy

what strategies do you guys use when driving to mitigate hijack risks ?
Allays be aware of surroundings at intersections
Never park yourself in tight at intersections
Never place vehicle in neutral.......and to hell with that K53 handbrake crap and intersections ( sorry cois !!!)

Smash n grap tint ? or leave window open by 1 cm , reduces the risk of window shatter
tracker or anti hijack ?
Firearm or bazooka? LOL

i find my Stig helmet keeps them at bay.....:fencelook:

B) Smash n grap tint ? or leave window open by 1 cm , reduces the risk of window shatter

A) This is a common theory that gets thrown around a lot and whilst is has merit in some cases, anyone who advocates this as any serious means of avoidance has never actually driven a car in JHB in my opinion.

90% of the time it is totally and utterly impossible to not be boxed in at an intersection and if someone decides to target you at that point there is nothing you can do.

B) I have always found window film to be a huge plus but it has to be so dark that you cannot see inside and that is illegal. Driving at night is also very difficult with that film on, you really cant seem much when reversing in the dark.

When these guys swing a spark plug on a piece of string / tyre spanner / steel pole etc at your window it is going to break whether it is closed or open. So dont think you are safe because your window is slightly open.

I always thought that having 'anti-smash n grab tinting' would negate your window from smashing in. I'm expecting mine to break but at least hold in place long enough for me to get the hell out of there!

Latest craze also is that they use Swimming Pool Acid to spray you in the face if your window is open.

Smash and grab film will keep the window in tact so you can GTFO, but it doesn't stop bullets so unless it is so dark that they cant see you it has not benefit in a Hi-Jacking

If you have a BMW you have an aircon. Close your damn windows.

And if you have a Good BMW you have a sun roof. Open that rather if you must.

Have to agree with L~C~G here, either you get boxed up or they forcefully box you in so you have nowhere to go. This happened to a friend from campus who had an e30 325i. At the robot there was a tazz in front of him and a bakkie behind him, the bakkie slowly came forward till his bumper while the tazz slowly reversed to narrow the gap. Thats where my friend pulled the handbrake up and did a Magesh spin out of the gap & drove off without damaging his car....

the problem comes about when you dont know whether to give up the car or not. some say its not worth your life on the other hand they could drive off with you and your family. who knows what happens next?
