Hi Guys

Hope everyone is well and having a lovely Easter Holidays .

So After receiving a shock of a quote from BMW and another independent for replacing my CCV I decided , well I can replace the Turbo on my F30 B48 , Let me see if I can do this myself .

Bought the parts , and started to strip the car this evening . OMG there's this one bolt that's an absolute pain in everything to get out! , Its just behind the alternator and under the Intake manifold . My arms , back , legs , head and everything is killing me . You have to stand in an awkward position while bending down with your hands twisted around sharp pieces of plastic and pipes while trying not to damage anything just to get to the bolt and take it out , and then you have to turn it slowly while resetting the bolt after every turn .

Just a tip , nothing fits there , you need to make up some kind of tool to get it out , I had a hmm Spanner from a toy that was really thin and strong , used one of the T30 torque tips , attached it with pres stick and slowly slowly turned the bolt . Its such an absolute pain , Its the longest and most difficult bolt I have ever experienced on a car .

The cars now stripped , Iv removed the intake manifold , now all i need to do is replace the CCV and reinstall everything , While im in there i decided to clean up a bit .
Otherwise this task isn't that difficult . All my CCV hoses were still good but I can see there's a lot of oil in them and some in the intake itself .

The symptoms my car was experiencing was .

Low Power up to 2500rpm
High oil consumption
High Fuel consumption
Feeling as though the car was struggling below 2500
Puff of smoke when ever i stopped at a robot and pressed the acc to move off
Smoke in the cabin ( not alot but i could smell it )
Whistling noise from time to time when pressing the acc or under load .

Just a word of advise to anyone who is going to attempt this at home , you must have the correct tools and be prepared for lots of scratches and hurt/strained muscles .
lol

Right now im contemplating if I should reinstall that bolt , its going to be an absolute pain getting that back in . I don't think there's anyway to torque it , there's just no space . But lets see .

It all sounds like so much fun until you get stuck into it.

I had the entire top of my engine stripped by someone else to diagnose a fault which necessitated a full rebuild. One of the hardest parts was getting the inlet manifold and CCV to fit over and around the starter motor.

As you say lots of cuts, muscle aches and a bit of swearing here and there.

Take your time with putting the manifold and injectors back in (you might want to change the gaskets and O-rings at the same time) I ended up with a nice vacuum leak from the manifold because things weren't fitting properly.

Good luck and be proud.
