this car is jinxed

took it out yesterday for a drive ,wife and I went to the Spar then to Carls coffee shop in Queenswood, car ran well, had lots of attention, especially at the coffee shop as there logo is of a VW Fleetline, they even have a nose of one stuck on there wall.

so after a piece of cake and a coffee went to the antique shop and then got a call, issues at work, being on standby had to get home then off to work, and that's when it started misbehaving, does not want to idle at all,had to keep foot on accelerator to keep motor running, managed to get it home and parked it.

will see if I get a gap today, but doesn't look like it will be going for ice cream on the 10th

so last night took the bug out to the ice cream run,was glad it made it there,Friday morning it didn't look to promising,on the way it started its nonsense all over again and I had to battle to get it home, went to work in the bakkie and when I got home in the afternoon had another look under the hood

this picture above, the electromagnetic cut off valve, was making a clicking sound with ingnition in the on position, friends helped me over whats app ,and found the unit was very loose, actually it had turned out,so turned it back in and tightened it and car ran

here is a picture of the carb in exploded view

and just to show you guys how simple a bug is this picture

they are love/hate cars:rollsmile:
some pictures from the ice cream run

wife brought my son down, came in the Landie, thats him smiling in the passenger seat,he cant wait until he gets the car

by the way,who said a BMW motor couldn't fit in a beetle, found these pictures

thanks for reading

Nice looking bug indeed. It appears to be endless work though! Not too many in good shape around anymore. :coolShake:

small update

so after the ice cream run, never really did anything to it,so stood up until today, bought a timing light, universal fuel sender unit and a fuel gauge

reset the carb settings ,hooked up the timing light and timing was completely out, turned the distributor slowly until timing was correct, increased the revs a little bit as these cars need air to keep it cool, especially in bumper to bumper traffic.

took it for a drive and all ok,will do the fuel sensor another day.

tomorrow off to Piston and ring meet up

haven't done anything y=to it since last post, did have an issue with the ignition though, turns out wire on starter was a bit loose, tightened it up and all ok

been taking it to a couple classic car shows, and really enjoying it.

i will update as i go along

well another year, and still have it,have put on 5 new tyres, just under R5000 for the lot,got an old suitcase for the dog box and an old lucas spotlight in yellow for the front, and new Empi pedals for inside, all for show of course, also found an old radio which must still be installed.

while doing some spring cleaning in December found my original user manual from when i had my 74 Beetle,so now that is in the cubby.

to do hopefully this year, king and link pins, lower the front and complete new wiring through out, and a new steering wheel, hopefully a wooden one,but in the mean time just enjoying the 3rd Sunday run to Piston and Ring in Modderfontien

oh and i have sort of taken it back, son is still growing and cant fit in most cars,so we ended up buying him a Chevy ute(still old opel but rebadged Chevy}plenty space in there for his long legs,so Beetle is father/son car
